Is she ready? Hi all, Lucy has just turned 7 months old and I would like to have her spayed before her first heat. She is still only 3.5 lbs. though the breeder told me to expect her to be about 5lbs. grown. Question - I thought I read that it was dangerous to spay/neuter under 4 lbs? Is that correct? If that's the case, should I hang on a month more and pray she puts a bit more weight on or is 3.5 enough to feel comfortable? I also plan to have her baby teeth removed an her chip done at the same time. Thanks in advance! |
its untrue about waiting till 4lbs until surgery. Most people here have their pups fixed and they are under this weight. Morgan was 2.5 lbs when she was spayed and had teeth pulled and a microchip. as long as she is healthy then she should be fine. if you want, you can get pre-op bloodwork done before hand. I didn't get it done for morgan but lots of people on here get it done. i'd get her done before she goes into heat, and i wouldnt wait anymore, but that's just my opinion. |
Bella was 3.8 ponds when spayed, my vet said it was ver important to have it done before her first heat. Maybe ask your vet how they feel? |
Abby's getting spayed friday and she is 3 or 4 pounds :( I'm nervous my vet said it was very important to do before first heat also. one more thing- prices go up waayy higher once the've had 1st heat. |
Mine got spay before the first heat and she did great:thumbup: |
Emma was spayed when she was 6 months old and 2.9 lbs :) |
Thank you. Your responses make me feel much better. I'll make the appointment tomorrow. As much as I'm dreading it I really want to get it behind us. |
Rosi was 3.7 pounds @7 mo. and she did great !:) |
