Alot of folks love the raw diet and swear by it. As long as you know what you are doing, I guess it is your personal choice. I do have to warn some of you, that I have two friends who were on a yorkie list who listened to all kinds of good information about the raw diet. They both went right out and started feeding raw and both of their yorkies ended up in the emergency clinic violently ill. One almost died. They were lucky. Just be careful, take every precaution, and make sure you are educated and are doing it properly if this is something you plan to do.

You give no facts here, why did they fall ill? What was the diagnosis?

Also that fact that you say 'They both went right out and started feeding raw' makes me think that they can't of done much research. I did 8 months of research before starting raw.

My point exactly, do your research. I never said NOT to do it, just make sure you know what you are doing, just like you did, with research.

I would still like to know what the diagnosis was? Theres no point saying these dogs got sick from raw if you can't say actually say what was wrong with them.

I would like to know what happened to. I had a friend that decided to try raw and then told me if gave her dogs diarrhea. Well, it turned out she would give her dogs raw and kibble at the same time! Of course her dogs are going to have diarrhea..you can't mix the two! Feeding anything takes research. I researched for a couple months before switching Lacy to Nature's Variety Raw diet. I would have researched even longer if I had chosen to mix raw myself so I would have known i was getting ratios right and all. Lacy has been on a raw diet for a year and a half almost and has done great

I am not trying to start an argument, just stating what I know. I thought this was a formum where everyone participated. I was on a list with these two people, they fed raw, their yorkies got violently ill, ended up at the emergency vet, were on IV's. One came home the next day and had to be on antibiotics, the other was in there for a few days and almost died. These are facts. I wasn't there at the vet, I don't know the details. I came here just to participate. I never said not to do the raw diet, and I never said it will definitely harm a dog. It is obvious that some dogs do well on it. All I said was to do your research and be careful. That is stated for folks who might not do their research and try it not knowing what they are doing. I didn't say it to offend anyone or to start a confrontation. This is a place of discussion and I feel like some here kinda jumped down my throat just for stating something I knew happened.

I am sorry if my question upset you. You do have every right to be apart of this community and participate. I was just curious to know what exactly happened to those two dogs. I was wondering if it was a bacteria from the raw meat or if it was a bone issue. :confused:

no one is jumping down your throat. you stated that raw caused them to get sick. We would just like to know what exactly about the raw got them sick and what the vet said. Sometimes people say its one thing but after going to the vet it turns out to be something else.

She was just sharing a story. It seems like she doesn't know the actual diagnosis, she's just telling us what happened. It may or may not have been due to the raw. Maybe the raw was fed with kibble, who knows what happened?
I don't disagree with raw :) I think everyone has to make their own choices, and I know that you guys who feed raw have put a lot of research in to this just like others do for homecooking or even for kibble :)
The only thing that I was going to say to those interested in feeding raw- make sure that your dog is healthy and does not have any underlying health issues. A dog who has a compromised liver due to MVD/HMD or liver shunt or something like that could have serious problems with a raw diet as their immune systems are usually compromised as well and their livers and bodies wouldn't be able to handle all that meat.
I don't see any reason why a healthy dog shouldn't get it though if that's what the dog owner feels comfortable with :)

Well said...Yorkieluv - you are so right!

I love the whole idea of raw and I was feeding raw for about 6 months until we found out the Roxy and TJ might have liver issues. As much as would love to continue with raw, I had to put their liver issues first and change to a home made low protein diet ;)
