Anybody add to their food to make it yummier? Tia has been on Canidae All Life Stages for months now. She seems to be a finicky eater. She has only ever known "dog" food (we don't want her to beg at our table). She seems to go on hunger strikes, not eating very much. We go for a walk every day (and to the dog park at least 2-3 times per week) so I want to makes sure she's eating enough to fule her active body. Should I just leave her be and figure she'll eat when she's hungry? Or do you add anything to her food to make it more appetizing? What about the other 2 flavours of Canidae? Once when she had an upset belly and the runs I mixed her food with plain white rice (she loved it). And a couple of times I've minced a raw baby carrot and mixed it into her food (that helped too). Only once as a puppy I saw her display signs of hypoglycemia (sp?) and I got out the corn syrup. Since then, no signs.....just somedays she eats, some days she picks at her food. I'm not overly concerned, just curious if there is anything anyone recommends to make her meals a little more tasty for her. |
as long as the food is out so she can eat when she wants i wouldn't worry about it. you have a self regulator there. morgan was the same way on kibble. she only ate when she was hungry and sometimes it was only a few bites a day. other days it was two full meals. i had her on canidae as well. i've since switched to raw and she always eats her meals now with no problems |
Conner is on Canidae right now. He was on the all life stages, but this time I got the chicken and rice. He loves it. I also add a little hamburg or chicken to his food. I do up a batch of each, put it in the little rubbermaid plastic cups with the red tops, and it will last me 2 - 3 weeks (I take the ones I will use the next day the night before). He will eat all the chicken, and then eat the kibbles when he wants. |
My aunt sprinkles some Parmesan cheese on her Yorkie's food. I can't say if it's 100% healthy, but it works. |
I'll add in left over veggies and meat to mine, when the family doesn't eat everything in site. LOL |

I doubt you would ever have to coax her to eat real food. :D You should try it! |
We feed Canidae All life Stages too. For Benny & Brody- I mix a tablespoon of Spot's Stew into their kibble in the morning and in the evening. The tbs. seems to fill them up. Then leave the dry out all day for free feed. |
I add boiled chicken, cottage cheese, green bean baby food or carrot baby food sometimes to Gracie and Hallee's food. They gobble it down. |

I would recommend putting some Grizzly Salmon Oil on it. We have two finicky eaters here and whenever I put the Salmon Oil on their food they goble it right it. Plus the oil is really great for them and makes their coat sooo shiney! |
I add plain non-fat yogurt, low-fat cottage cheese, little pieces of baby carrots, and sometimes brown rice..seems to do the trick. |
I sometimes add some Ziwi Peak, sweet potato, peas, corn or carrots, and on rare occasion a bit of cottage cheese. I find if I do that too much she won't eat her food without the additions. |
You might try a little brewer's yeast...it's supposed to be like Parmesan cheese is for people, only healthier for dogs. You could also do a teaspoon of cottage cheese, some shredded unseasoned chicken, carrots, yogurt, or a little bit of fruit. |
