Help me and my yorkie! This is my very first post here and i am so glad i found this message board!!!! I got my gog 2 days ago from my sister in law. They always had him out back and he rarelly came in. Now that he is with me, he is inside all the time i take him for walks, etc. But i am have some problems with him. first, when i take him with me in the car, he drools A LOT and gets really nervous. he threw up in the car today. is that normal? will he get used to it? second, he has thrown up a couple times since i got him. is it because he is just nervous? third, Ill take him outside to go potty, and he wont go. then 10 minutes later hell go in the house. fourth, he barely eats. i have to sit with him so he eats. is it the food? fifth, he barely drinks water. he peed on me last night in the car and we were outside the whole day and he never went. I am very worried about my dog. Please help me! |
Hi Welcome I really cannot help you with these things but I just wanted to welcome you to YT. |
How old is your yorkie and when was his last vet visit? Your sister-in-law should be able to give you this info. It's possible that it's stress. He's just probably nervous because of the new environment he is in. I suggest you contact the vet if the vomiting persist. Don't stress too much yourself. Your dog will be sensing it and would likely get more agitated. I hope it helps. If not, you can always ring an emergency animal hospital and just ask them. They'd be able to assist you. :) |

I don't even have a Yorkie yet but during my research for a pup I found information about Yorkie rescue. It sounds like your dog may be suffering from some of the stress those dogs do. Consider contacting them for some guidelines. http://www.homestead.com/YTRA/index.html good luck. |
poor little thing. sounds like nerves to me. My opinion : best thing you can do right now is have patience. Notice the times that he potties and take him out close to the same times. the not eating part was the way that my Buckeye acted when we first got him. He was 2 yrs old at that time. even now he tries to pull that "I am not going to eat if you don't hand feed me" thing. LOL They won't let them selves starve. Buckeye is also one that doesn't drink very much water. Just make sure you make avalible at all times fresh clean water. the vomiting is probably nerves also. Keep and eye on him. Have you had him to the vet? doesn't sound like he has had much experience riding in a car. he will probably get used to it if you take him very often. I am happy to hear you brought him in from the out doors life and welcome to YT. |
WElcome to YT. I really don't have much information, however there are so many wonderful people here who are full of knowledge. I just wanted to say HI! And good luck with your little one. |
thanks thank you guys so much for your help! i love my yorkie SO MUCH !!! he just went potty outside and i threw him a party!!! im so proud. he's my little gaurd dog. im bringing him to the vet next week. ill try not to stress. Thanks again!!!!! |
You need to get him used to the car very gradually - pop him in the car with out the engine running for a 2-3 minutes at first once he is comfortable with that gradually build it up till he will eat his meal in the car. Then and only then try sitting in the car with him with the engine turned on only for a few minutes build up gradually to moving in the car but only move onto each step when he is comfortable with the last one. It may take a month or two to do it but you can make him a happy traveller with time and patience :) If he is still car sick a little ginger biscuit may help or you can get tablets from the vet to help (but if you can avoid them it's better as they have a sedating effect). In the house you need to treat him like a rescue dog :( |
