Hearing Loss? For the last few months I have been noticing that Ellie doesn't hear quite as well as she used to. We used to be in my bedroom and anytime someone knocked at the front door or walked into the house and talked she would go crazy barking. Now it is almost like she can't hear certain tones of voice. When someone comes in the house most of the time now you have to tell her that someone is here (unless she sees them out the window). We were just sitting on the couch (about 3 feet from the front door) and someone knocked (not lightly either). She didn't bark at all or even move. She loves barking at people so she obviously just didn't hear it. I am getting concerned but I can't afford to keep talking her to the vet. Ya know? She definately can hear me so it is just certain tones. Any idea what is wrong? |
How old is she? Has she had an ear infection? |
Ellie is six. She had a yeast infection in her ears. It was ongoing because we thought it was just the normal dog/ear/mite thing. Well, we finally got her checked and it was a yeast infection. That has been treated and she got clearance from the vet. It tries to come back but we have medicine left over and ear flush. I don't think she has any other type of infection but her ears do itch her quite a bit lately. |
I would have her checked out by a vet. She seems to young to be having hearing problems but I am not an expert on that |
I just made her an appointment for next Tuesday. |
The vet said her ears look perfect. She said Ellie is too young to be going senile:). She doesn't know if it is a connection between the ears and brain but isn't worried. She said it probably is selective hearing. $38.00 to be told she is just being a silly Yorkie.   |
