Baby Yorkie ongoing flea problem My Yorkie is 4 months old today. I am having a terrible flea problem with him. I cant seem to get rid of them. I have used Frontline on him and also Capstar pills. I have turned my house upside down trying to clean every corner and somehow couple days later he still gets them. He is super tiny so its easy for me to notice them. He isnt feeling too well anymore either, I am running out of things to do. I feel so bad for him but this has been going on for the past month and I am running out of options. Any suggestions? I have read the comments below but I have done all of those things. ANY help will be appreciated! |
As for getting rid of the fleas in your house, I think you need an exterminator. They can spray inside and outside your house. Its the only way you are going to truly get rid of them once and for all. Regarding the frontline, I'm shocked it didn't work. How and when did you apply it? If you apply it on the hair, it will not work. You must part the hair on their back and make sure it goes directly onto the exposed skin in one spot. It only works for a month, could it have worn off? Poor little guy! I hope you find your answers here. |
Yes, I too have used Frontline on my 1 year old Yorkie just last weekend and they were gone by the end of the next day. Maybe you did apply it wrong. Have you taken your baby to the vet? If you've done everything else, they I'd get an experts' help by taking him to see the doc; especially if he's starting to not feel well:( Good luck and hope he feels better soon. Darn Bugs!!! |
fleas I had the same problem with my yorkies so here's what i did and the fleas are gone. 1) have someone bring your yorkie outside 2) Clean the house, if you have carpet, steamclean it, if you have hardwood, wash it with hotwater + chemical soultions. Make sure you clean each room in the house. Let it dry up for a few hours, then spray Frontline spray or any other spray on the hardwood/carpet and let it dry up. Make sure you also clean the crate, pet's bed, your bed. 3) Bath your Yorkie, dont' wet the entire yorkie, hand wet the face first, then put flea shampoo on the head, face, (avoid eyes), leave shampoo on for 10 mins. Then wet neck, apply shampoo, leave on for 10 mins, continue through body and legs. Make sure you get through all parts of the body, hidden spots, armpit, etc.... 4. Soak yorkie in warm water, i mean put the entire body in the water besides the head for 5 mins. That will if the fleas survive the flea shampoo , the water will drown them. Check the neck/head of the yorkie for flea surviver, if you find any, killed them, they can't run no more. Now you have a fresh clean yorkie, flea free and he will not be able to pick up any fleas roaming in your house. however, if you do bring him to the park or backyard, make sure you bomb/clean your yard with flea powder or spray. |
I wonder if he doesn't have a tapeworm from the fleas? Tapeworm is treated with Drontal and available through a vet only. Look for segments in his poopy. Good luck and fleas are hard to get rid of on carpet, bedding, etc. |
Instead of flea shampoo, you can use regular dawn dish soap to kill the fleas...It's not toxic and will kill them but it won't keep them from jumping on your dog, so you have to treat your house first in order to get rid of the fleas. |
I hope you have better luck getting rid of them. Cody is on Frontline plus like clockwork every three weeks and it works for about a day or two and then forget it, my cat is also on it and everytime they get frontline they get droncit tabs for tapeworms. The fleas are horrible here!!!!!! I've had the house done proffessionally and myself, i've done the yard three times already but they are just ....ugh!!!!!!! The vet said that there isn't a whole lot that can be done here until winter. He did however give them val-syrup which is vitamins and it help them greatly. |

I use advantage all the time and have never had a problem with fleas coming back...maybe try it for a change.. Dawn |
also if he isnt feeling well then he may have tapeworms because fleas cause them they cant be seems in fecal tests (i think this is what its call anyways i mean poop tests lol) but sometimes you will see them on their butt areas while you are petting the pup or in his poop. my vet just told me this. my pup doesnt have them but my vet said since they cant be seen in fecal tests than we should just watch to make sure. also get a flea comb and just pick them out. |
fleas I have had great luck with Zodiac products. I bath adn spray with Zodiac for puppies and kittens and use the opholstery spray for the house. My flea problem went away in about 4 weeks. Our Frys grocery stores carry it and you can order it from Ryans Pet Supplies on line. Hope you get rid of the little peskeys fast!!! Lynn |
fleas You might also use the Zodiac bombs and bomb each room of the house. Lynn |
Try the bombs to get rid on the inside fleas, and seven dusts outside where he goes. You can even put seven dust right on him. It's not toxic to animals. |
