I would try plain rice (brown or white) or pasta (whole wheat or white) with a bit of boiled chicken mixed in. If you don't want to give the chicken, boil the chicken in some plain water and moisten the rice or pasta with the chicken water. You could also give some scrambled egg, cottage cheese. Baby food chicken or turkey is great as long as it does not contain onions. I'm not sure what is wrong with your pup, but this diet is usually appetizing. You might also give a bit of nutrical. These babies do go on hunger strikes. My Gracie sure did several times. She would go 2-3 days without eating before she would finally give in and eat. If your baby seems really sick, not wanting to play, not drinking and eating, I would get him to the vet NOW. |
have you tried cottage cheese or yogart? how old is he...you may need to give him some nutrical stuff if he is lathargic...or syrup if you don't have that. Rice (brown is best but any will do) or scrambled eggs is good too. Keep us posted on how he is doing. I always give my girls cheese or even peanut butter if they have gone too long in eating and they get the tummy growls. boiled chicken is good too. Make sure he is drinking plenty of water too. if not, syringe in some into the side of his mouth. If he gets dehydrated they vet will probably but a water bubble under his skn between his shoulder blades to hydrate him. hope that helps...be sure and call your vet if he doesn't get better or take him to an emergency animal clinic if he gets lifeless. These babies can get that hypoglycemia in a flash!! Good luck!! |
thax im trying the chicken right now |
are yuo shure that baby food is okay and by any chance does any one here hommade cook for there babies i really eant to i just dont know what ,how much per day and he cant have a lot of protine |
Is he on a protein restricted diet? If he is, I'd try the plain white rice with a little chicken broth just for flavor. If that doesn't work, I'd get him to a vet. |
Does he have a liver problem? Is that why he's on low protein? How old is he? If he has liver problems, then be careful with the chicken...Cook one egg and cook 1-2 cups of rice, and mix it together, and give him just a little...This should help him eat. Or better yet, just give him rice with low sodium chicken broth. |
Just make sure the broth was not made with onion. |
Yes make sure you get plain chicken broth. |
My puppy has a liver shunt Hello, I'm the proud new mom of a 2 pound Yorkie named Dixie. I've had her for 2 months now and have just found out she has a liver shunt. Does anyone have any helpful hints about diet. I am a nurse so I know how to manage a liver patient, but my concerns are she is not getting enough nutrition with the Hill's dog food. Her coat is thin and dry I'm thinking she need some vitamins or suppliments. anyone have any ideas? My vet wasnt a lot of help. thanks. |

I sent you a private message, SLUSK...Also, please join the liver shunt and mvd group that I mentioned in the pm. You will be able to find lots of information in their files section, and also, you will be able to send emails asking questions to people who have been dealing with these conditions for a very long time. |
I am concerned about him only eating carrots. Did you know there was a recall recently on carrots? You might want to google it. I hope that the carrots he ate aren't from the recall. Please check to make sure. |
