cucumbers for breakfast? is it safe to give a yorkie a piece of a cucumber for breakfast and thats it ? if yes, how much ? if no, why ? thanx :D ;) :) |
Cucumber is fine as a treat but, 1. Unless its pureed then they can't actually process it so they don't get much goodness out of it. 2. A dog needs far more nutrients to start their day than what they get in cumcumber, they need protein! |
Maybe you can give the cucumber as a treat. |
My yorkie gets either half a juiced zucchini or half a juiced celery stalk almost every morning around 8am, then food at 10, etc. |
seeing all of these posts about feeding fruits and veggies makes me feel like a bad mommy! maybe I should start spoiling my baby more? |
Yes, I would start spoiling more.:) There is no reason why dogs can't have fruit (except grapes) and veggies. They are so good for them in moderation. |
I would also recommend that you peel the cucumber so it's easier to digest. The peel can be tough, and might be hard on his tummy. You might also consider removing the seeds...if you don't, you'll see them on "the other side", and they're much less pretty then ;) |
Mine absolutely go crazy for green peppers....cukes are up there too. I try and get some fresh veggies in them daily. Fruits are great also...try doing a search in here on fruits and veggies...great info on how to prepare and what kinds are safe! |
I would never give JUST a cucumber for breakfast. Remember that dogs are, well, dogs...they like meat! They need protein. They're descended from wolves. LOL. Now I gave Kalina some cottage cheese for breakfast this morning but I mixed in some raw beef and her vitamins. Maybe mix some meat and vitamins with the cucumbers and see if she likes it that way? I'm still learning too. :) |
Just make sure to cut up or puree your celery, those strings can cause major problems on their little digestive tracks! |
Interesting Can someone post a list of fruits and veggies ok to give my pup? He's 4 months and we have lots of fruits and veggies in the fridge I just never thought of giving him anything but carrots (which he won't eat).. |
The major things you need to stay away from are onions, raisins, grapes, tomatoes...Most fruits and vegetables are fine. You just need to make sure that you don't give them any fruit seeds like apple seeds. Those are toxic to dogs. I give my furbabies apple bits all the time and watermelon. Berries are good...pineapple, bananas, those are okay too... |
