Vaccine questionnnnn. Hello all. Howie is due for his vaccines next month. Rabies. Bordatella. and the Distemper. I was wondering if it's a good idea to give him all three shots in one day ... or if I should wait a couple weeks. Thanks in advance. - Monika and Howie:) |
I would do them all at once. Lacy went for her vaccinations a couple months ago and got her DHPP booster, Rabies, and Bordatella intranasal. |
I wouldn't have the vaccines given at the same time, if at all. There is a new vaccine protocol, in the link below the subject is discussed. You might want to take a look before deciding what to do. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ccine+protocol |
DHPP boosters are given at 8, 12, and 16 weeks with the rabies given at 16 weeks. One year later, another DHPP booster and rabies booster is given. After that, you can vaccinated every three years. Most grooming and boarding places require bordetella every 6 months. Vets can vary in the exact protocol they use as well. Lacy is 2 and like I said just had a DHPP and rabies booster. Her rabies is good for three years but they want to vaccinate her with another DHPP booster in one year before doing that one every three years. On the years your dog does not receive vaccines, you should still go in for a yearly physical exam and heartworm test. |
I think you should wait 1-2 weeks in between vaccines in case your dog has a reaction. You wouldn't know what caused it. I also think that animals are way over vaccinated. |
Zoey was less than 3lbs and had a reaction to just about everything. She vomited and was very lethargic. I would spread them out just to be safe. |
Mine had them all at the same time |
I did all of mine in one day, just so that i don't have to bring them back and have them to get it all over again. |
Mine gets them once every other week to make sure there is no reaction. My vet doesn't require an appt for the shots alone - once she has been checked and given the first shot, I just take her in and the assistant gives her further shots, one week apart, to make sure there is no reaction and so that, if there is a reaction, we can pinpoint it. My vet does not recommend bordatella unless she is being kenneled or in a similar situation. |
Lucy got her booster and rabies shot at the same time and her bordetella intranasel a week later (the vet didn't charge an office visit for this, just took her to the back and administered this). The vet and I discussed it and she thought that all three in one day might be too much for her so that's why we did it that way. She probably would have been fine with all three that day though. |
Each pup is different. To be on the safe side, I wouldn't have more than one vaccine done at a time. |
I wrote a thread about this a year or so ago... please dont take the chance because princess had a pretty bad allergic reaction to all three at once!!!! she had to go back for a counter reaction shot~ my vet said its common in smaller dogs for an allergic reaction (too bad he told me this afterwards!!) |
Thank you all so much for your opinions I really appreciate it. |
