I dont ship puppies in but .. who know so i buy the extra wormer and give the puppy more chem. before the fecal was done ... and suprise no creepy crawlys ... well yesterday i ran to my vet to look at Loki's butt and told him my fears of Hook worms and he LAUGHED at me thank god he huged me when i came in or he would of had a high heal in his instep LOL i guess hook worms are not a Ca issues unless im a broker or a puppy mill .. since i was laughed at i didnt ask what damage these worms do .. anyone have an idea |
Her is what I know. Hookworms suck blood and in rare instances can make the animal anemic and even kill it. They can infest both cats and dogs. Hookworm larvae can be swallowed or it can penetrate through the skin if a lawn is contaminated. |
Just had to de-hook worm my Dallas yesterday. Don't know how he got it...he doesn't go ANYWHERE with me but sure enough........... |
thanks guys i LOVE it when we get a new bug in CA that i never had to worry about before |

hook worms come from contaminated soil as far as i know they have been around forever |
I don't know what they do, but their prevalent just about everywhere. |
I didn't have coccidia or hookworms until I bought 3 girls from my ex-mentor who was staying on a farm, with chickens, while her new house was being renovated. I nearly lost 4 puppies to low blood sugar and coccidia about 2 months ago. About a week later I nearly lost a 7 month old puppy to the hookworms. He became anemic and the vet said he didn't think he would live. Course I'm not gonna leave him at the vets to die so I take him home and he recovered and has a new home now where he's doing fine. I had 10 puppies up for sale and 2 of them I sold did die because of the coccidia and low blood sugar. I have offered to replace the puppies but only one of the families has responded so far. I can't blame them for being wary but my dogs were fine before I brought the 3 new girls into my home so I do blame my ex-mentor for all these problems. I am also grateful that I now know about these problems. Sylvia |
