and after i get him to like dog food ... wat are some diets for dogs? (like a type of dog food etc.) |
Maybe try adding some of the table food you give to him with his kibbles. mix it around real good and then gradually stop the table food. I know how easy it is to give in to these little faces but, you could be killing your dog with kindness. They really need to eat dog food. I'm not saying that I don't occasionally give the girls a little peice of cheese or chicken breast meat from time to time but, their diet is Canidae (all meat sources) kibble and I mix a small amount of the Canidae wet with it..just for a little something extra. Dogs can get pancreatitis from eating too much human food..and you really don't want that to happen....very painful for the furbaby and very costly for you. I would suggest a good dog food for your furbaby. Someone had posted a thread here on all the different kinds of dog food along with their ratings. Just type dog food rating in the search and it should bring it up.. Good Luck! These little ones can be real stinkers about their food! |
I agree with mixing small amounts of table food with the kibble. Try to mix it real well so he/she will have to eat the kibble to get to eat the goodies. I use Nutro Natural Choice Lamb & Rice. |
You might try adding a little low fat small curd cottage cheese, carrot baby food or greenbeen baby food to the kibble. I add a little to our girls food sometimes and they love it. |
Some Garlic In an episode of It's Me Or The Dog featuring a Yorkie that would only eat on the table off a fork. She put an end to that by mixing a little garlic and some seasonings on the yorkie meal. That baby have never eaten from a bowl and the instant she put it on the floor he started eatin it. |
I have added low sodium chicken broth but now I add shredded chicken and mix it well, they eat it with no problem... I have also heard here on YT that "spitting" on it will make them eat... kinda weird but hey, whatever works... good luck d |
I agree with adding a little bit of table food to his kibble, slowly decreasing the amount over time. Any sort of broth is great to just pour over his kibble to help with the taste for him. Adding veggies to his kibble would be good. My mother had the same problem with her Lhasa, he wouldn't eat his dog food, only table food. But now she has him back to where he is eating his dog food again. Good luck. |
What kinds of table scraps are you giving your Yorkie? It is okay to give a dog homecooked food, but it has to be a balanced diet made especially for them. Ellie gets homemade meals, but they are made for her out of ingredients that are very healthy for dogs. I would get some Canidae dog food, if you can't homecook, and add cottage cheese or chicken pieces (no skin, no fat) to it. |
Some people have said that it is very important to feed dog food, that is not entirely true. You can balance your dogs diet by feeding either raw or home cooked ingredients just fine. If you do sufficient research, understand what sources provide what necessary nutrients then there is no problem. Do some research, if you want to feed a dog food then you can but you should not be made to feel that dog food is necessary. With all this commercially prepared food we will all lose the knowledge in how to construct healthy diets from raw materials, something our forefathers managed for years. Do we feel the need to feed ourselves 'human kibble'? No we make a balanced diet out of ingredients. You can do the same for your dog and they will likely be much healthier than if they were eating kibble because even good quality kibble is not in a natural form for dogs. I'd advise you to do your own research about different feeding programs, raw (or BARF (biologically appropriate raw food)), homecooked and dog foods. Decide what is best for your dog. |
Baby is very picky about dog food. She will not eat any "loaf" kind of foods. She really loves Evangers Chicken Drummetts. That is pure chicken wings in a broth with carrots and pasta. Check it out (but take out the bones). http://www.evangersdogfood.com/ |
I wouldn't put him on a diet, because he still young. Wait until hes a year old, atleast. Also, if you look in the poll section you can see theres a thread "what high quality food do you feed your dog" in there someone posted a link to where it has food divided into stars. I would get either a 4 or 5 start. Mine is a 5 star, and I just switched them and can't remember the name. Let me know if you can't find it. |
