Heartworm Medicine What kind do you use?? We were prescribed HeartGaurd....once a month...the tablet is good for dogs up to 25lbs... Izzy threw up 4 times over the course of two days after I gave her the medicine...is it too much??? she only weighs 3.5 pds...now 3 pds... |
Kalina is on Heartguard with no problems. She had her first dose last month and her second next week. Sorry to hear it made her sick. |
Well, she took it like a champ last month which was her first dose...I will be curious to know how your baby does second time around...let me know! |
We use I believe it's spelled invermentin. It comes in a bottle, and you have to measure it out and put on a little treat. It's more economical for us, and works great. You get it a feed store. |
I use interceptor on both my dogs and so far no problems. |
Ellie gets Interceptor. She has never had a problem with it and I have read on here that it is the safest (or atleast one of the safest) for small dogs. |
I use Interceptor for Madison and Jack, it also helps prevent hookworms, roundworms and whipworms, I am really pleased with how good it works, and my dogs eat the little tablets without having to disquise it. The Interceptor that I use is for dogs 2 to 10 lbs. |
OK so Im not crazy for wondering why Izzy is taking medicine for dogs that could weigh 25pds and she's 3pds. I may just have to half the medicine until we use it all and then switch. We paid $30ish for the HeartGuard and I have a hard time throwing it in the trash! |
Cody is on heartguard. one tablet a month. he takes it with no problems |
How much does he weigh? |
Heartguard vs. Interceptor When I first started heartworm meds many years ago I tried Heartguard and my dogs got sick and vomited from it. My vet said it's just like other meds, some are sensitive to different meds so we tried Interceptor and I've been using it ever since with no problem. They both offer similar protection so give a try with it if your dogs are sensitive to heartguard. |
4lbs 14 ounces |

Also, the Interceptor does come in a smaller dose so they get less medication. They have one for 2-10lbs (instead of up to 25# like the Heartgard).... |
Bentley is on heartgard..for dog UP TO 25 lbs. |
I have 2 small pups 3.3lbs and 2.6lbs and both of them take interceptor. They have been taking it for 4 months and no problems so far. |
