Help Is She In Heat Or Not?
 
This is such a dumb question but here it goes lol........ Daisy is now 10 months old and i think she may be having her first heat? She is swollen but there has been no blood??? i have tried wiping down there but i get nothing? Am i loosing it or what? also just a note to add she had freckles for nipples and now they are actually there and out so is this a sign that she may be in heat? I noticed when i got out of the hospital that she was swollen so it's been 5 days now but i stii haven't seen blood? Any suggestions?

I would say she is in heat or coming into heat and the blood will start soon. I have a female in heat right now with no blood that I have seen. Just swollen and my male is breeding and getting a tie and she is standing.
( to say the least ;) ) I guess there has to be a bit of blood but I have not seen it and when I wiped there was nothing.

OMG, little Daisy is growing up:eek: Is Peeka acting any differently? I have no idea what to tell you but I'll learn from your posts since soon I'll have to deal with Hoku going through it - sigh.

well that makes me feel better that yours isn't bleeding either lol. it's so bizarre?

He is a little not much though she is the one being different she is really barking a lot latley and she never barks she is really affectionate latley to which she isn't as much useually. i don't know lol

Allie is in heat right now too. I've seen no blood bit she has been swollen for about 2 weeks now. It's about a 21 day process I think. go in for 7 days, bleed for 7 days, then are in actual heat for 7 days. I can't wait until it's over! She is also 10 months old.

I say she's in heat. London got her first heat about 3 weeks ago, she's almost 11 months. At first her private was swollen and her nipples but there was no blood at all so i was confused but sure enough in a couple days i saw some blood but it's like a drop every like hr or so. Some bleed more, some less. Also about 2-3 weeks after their period is when you have to watch the males around her, that's what ive learned. Teddy has turned into MR. CRAZY HORNDOG! LOL

LulaBelle did that before I got her spayed and I was so confused!!!!
My vet said it was a dry heat.:confused:
It's when she can get pregnant b/c she is in heat but doesn't bleed.

Well, I am taking an online vet assistant class and I will post the info that I have learned. This will not be word for word because I would probably get in big trouble for cutting and pasting.

There are four stages to a heat cycle and each has its own "symptoms".

Proestrus-last 3-14 days (usually lasts about 9 days). This is when swelling of the vulva starts along with bleeding from the vulva.

Estrus-last from 2-20 days (usually a week). This is when the female allows breeding. Her discharge changes from red to clear or pink.

Diestrus-This is when some dogs who haven't been bred go into false pregnancy.

Anestrus-hormonal dormancy between heat cycles.

:p I would assume she is in heat. Maybe she is just a light bleeder and she is cleaning herself well...:rolleyes:

My Gracie just had her first heat and it went by really lightly but the physical changes in her and great. Coco would not even go near her...I was so worried about him going crazy over her scent like he did with Trini and Shayley. But he smelled her and then walked off snobby, like, "No, you're too young, for a man like me" LOL...and tried to hump Trini, lol :D She didn't mind...

Thanks everyone! I think she is in heat. I feel so dumb lol i just thought they bleed a lot like we do i'm a dork i know. Well i will be watching her closley now.

Be glad you have not alot of bleeding My Daisy did and did not clean herself well. I have had to use panties on all my females not spayed
