Loose Stool, any ideas?? Emma, my 10 mo. old yorkie, has loose stool for the second time in two weeks. She has already been to the vet, where she was negative for parasites. We have had this problem off and on for quite a while. At first she was about 6 mo. old and was on Royal Canin puppy food, after a few bouts with the loose stool I slowly switched her to Blue Buffalo puppy food. She was great for a while, but in the last month or so has started the loose poo again. When I had her at the vet 2 weeks ago he gave her some gel (V??) that was supposed to firm her stool up, it didn't work and the loose stool lasted atleast 5 days. At times it was like water, other times looks normal but can't be picked up. She doesn't seem to feel bad, or be ill in any other way, just the poo. I have tried giving her pepto and feeding rice and chicken neither of which worked. Has anyone gone through this?? Any suggestions?? |
loose stool I've been going through this for 5 months now with my shih-tzu/chihuahua mix. You can check all of my posts. We've checked EVERYTHING. Right now the vet is thinking it may be senstive stomach and some digestion problems caused from inflamation in the intestines. Try starting with a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice...eliminate all treats. Then if it clears up starting working things back into the diet and see if you can pinpoint things that may upset the stomach |
OMG do I feel your pain and struggle. I've been going through this w/ Marcel for 4 mths now (he is 9 mths old). He had 2 bad bouts w/ giardia when he was around 5 mths old and we think it damaged his digestive tract and hope that it will heal. Or, he has ibd/ibs/colitis - where stools are soft then normal then mucousy then mucous w/ blood then soft serve and on and on. INCREDIBLY frustrating. You might try an "allergy" food such as Wellness Simple Solutions (http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com/well...ons_index.html) - it may help. Take away ALL treats that may have a coating (ie bully sticks too) or all treats period. You could try a prescription for Tylan Powder, which apparently is a miracle for some dogs, but not for Marcel. Has your vet mentioned ibs/ibd at all? You could also have a blood TLI to rule out any pancreatic involvement. But, I've done about $500 worth of blood work with...you guessed it...no clear solution. |
