How much canned Pumpkin? Diesel is having a problem with diarrhea. I did a search and all the thread said to give Canned Pumpkin, but how much? For those who dont know, Diesel is 12 weeks. I dont know if giving him to much would cause more of a problem. Also if this doesnt help I will be taking a stool sample in to the vet to see what is going on. Any suggestions on how to take diarrhea stool in? Gross I know..... they gave me a cup thing but I am not sure how to get it in there. Also I am switching his food right now and I am thinking that might be the problem, if the canned pumpkin helps should I not be worried any more? He is acting fine, eating, I gave him white rice, he is drinking water and playing. He isnt going alot just when he would normally poop, about twice a day, it is really really running. THanks |

pumpkin I dont know since you change food Id do more. did you mush up the rice? next meal you could do boiled skinned chicken and rice and mush it up good. so he gets nutrition. what was the old food? whats the new/and the poop. I had to wait it could not be old like over night. for e/r I would take the pad in. but if its in the grass I guess just scoop what u can. |
I wouldn't give more than a tablespoon at a time. That was how much the vet said to give Lacy and she's an adult. You might want to try just a half of a tablespoon at first and see if it helps. |

I would give 1 to 2 tablespoons to a 1/2 cup of kibble. BUT I'v also heard that there is no such thing as giving too much pumpkin, correct me if I'm wrong anyone :). What I do is give boiled chicken, white rice and canned pumpkin, mix it all together for a few days and see if that takes away the runny stool. If it does then add the kibble back into it slowly :). As for the stool sample, I say take a plastic spoon and spoon it up then put it in the cup or bag. GROSS I know  |

I have been changing him to Nature's variety. I am thinking that I switched him a little faster then i should have because it was really hard to keep him and Meeka on different foods. But I did it over a two week period. Like I said he is not pooping any more then usual, just his normal poops are runny. I started him on white rice on saturday night and since then the poops are a little more formed but still quite soft/runny. I just started him on the canned pumpkin last night so I will see how it is today. My other question is if this clears it but should I not been concerned any more? |
update Ok so I started him on the canned pumpkin last night so it has been a little less then 24 hours. He is eating white rice and chicken all mushed up also. He is drinking and playing like normal. He has gone pooh twice today and both times it is much firmer. It is taking the shape of normal stool again, but at the end it is still a little bit runny. I talked to the vet and told him all of this he said that as long as he stays the same and the stool continues to gain shape and get harder it is fine. What do you guys think? |
