I'm worried!
 

Last night I noticed a brownish spot on Paddington's pee-pad. I thought that he had just peed a lot in that one spot, and the urine was old, so I changed the pad and didn't think much about it.

The next time that he peed last night, the urine was brownish, and he had whole wild cherries in his stool (I guess there is a cherry tree growing in my parents' backyard that I didn't know about) I was worried, but my fiance told me it is probably nothing to worry about, probably something just passing through his system (like the cherries)

This morning his urine is still brownish, and it smells really bad.

Could it just be dehydration? Last night during his bath he was trying to drink his bath water, and when I checked his water dish it was empty (we're usually pretty good at keeping it full, but yesterday I guess we forgot to check it as often) I've been giving him fresh water every hour, but the bowl is always full, so now he isn't drinking the water. Or could it be (as my fiance suggested) the wild cherries staining his urine? I am worried that there is blood in his urine.

We are an hour away from our vet, and my keys are locked in the car :( I am home alone, but if I should rush him to the vet I could call someone... what should I do?????:( :confused: :( :confused: :(

I would call the vet and ask them for advice. The excessive thirst in combination with the discolored urine is alarming.

Call the vet, see what they say and if they think its an emergency then they should have an on call vet who can come to you.

I don't know if that causes dark urine or excessive thirst but I'd look into it. Your dog could also just have a bladder or kidney infection

yes, I know the pits are toxic, which was one of my concerns. The cherries were completely whole- they weren't digested at all. The vet seemed unconcerned about them, though. She said it sounds like a UTI and I should bring him in today or monday. I had an appointment for today, but the last couple times he's peed it has been yellow, so I am going to call them back and see if I can wait to see how he's doing on Monday. He isn't in pain or acting out of the ordinary at all. Just thirsty (but it has been hot) and the rusty colored pee which is gone now.

Hopefully he didn't chew the pits and they will come out whole in his poop. Sounds like he isn't having any ill effects from them, I hope he will be just fine!!

Just an update:
Paddington is acting completely normal, and his urine has been normal since about 3:00 this afternoon. I'm going to keep an eye on him to make sure we don't need to visit the vet on Monday, but it seems that he'll be fine. I haven't found anymore cherries in his stool either, so I think that they have all passed.


The cherries were in his stool whole, so I don't think he chewed any of them, only swallowed. I will make sure we clean the cherries out of the yard before we let him roam around again!!!

OMG... Excuse me DID you say grapes a toxic to yorkies??? "What happens"
I usually give Megan baby carrots, But I had some grapes and she ate 2. this was a week ago. then I had to be gone all night friday and when I came home Saturday there was blood in her stool. It was normal today but could have it been the grapes? Thank you.
