Back from the vet with Boston I don't know if this is good or bad news. The new vet could not find anything wrong with Boston, no virus, no bacteria, no parasites. She said it's very unusual for a puppy to have had this many problems and that i may need to see a specialist. She told me to continue with the metronidazole for a few more days, give him panacur liquid for 5 days and put him on hills prescription diet for a week. If his stool is not firm in a week I will have to be referred to a specialist:) Please say a prayer for him tonight. He has been poked and prodded since he was 7 weeks and just keeps on going that sweet little boy of mine. |
Did they say anything about maybe the metronidazole causing the soft stools? I know it does in people sometimes. I hope he feels better soon. Hopefully your on the road to some good firm poo!!! |
Good Luck to you! Mine had diarrhea really bad for 4 or 5 weeks! We never found anything wrong with either of them. They were on Panacur for a while, then on Metr.... it took a full 2 week does of that to get them on the right path.. they are now on Hills Prescription Z/d, I KNOW people dont like it, but the messy messes are gone and all is well so we stick with it... It does seem to take forever... |
Poor baby, I will pray for his health |
I feel for you. Tetley used to have really runny poos when he was little too - sometimes black and sometimes with lots of mucus. Took months for everything to get settled. I found that chewing on bully sticks and some chewie toys would give him the runs so I kept those away from him until he was older. Now he can eat anything and has firm poos with only the occasional bout of the runs. Hope your little guy feels better soon. It's so hard watching them go through such distress and looking to you to make them all better. :( |

The metronidazole can cause cause soft stools in some dogs. I have had my three on it a few weeks ago, two were helped by it, third dog got worse. He was switched to tylan and this has worked, just a pinch with his breakfast. They all had some bacteria overgrowth. Two are fine but the third is slowly going back on dog food, very slowly from chicken and rice. I'm afraid of a relapse. Has any vet suggested it could be a food allergy? I feel badly for Boston and you. It's hard when they have digestive issues. Jessica |

What's nutrical? Where do I get it? Do you still give him a complete home cooked diet? He started on Eukenoba then I switched them to canidae because Zoey needed to be off of puppy food and the canidae was for all stages. He's 5 months and 2 weeks right now. |

And yeah, now that I've seen how good Tetley does on a home cooked diet, there's no way I'm going back to commercial. |
