What does that mean? he's been on hamburger and rice for two days..no treats or anything else. I'm thinking it's getting worse, not better? Black liquid? Can't be good

In humans a black stool means blood. I would definitely call the vet!

I agree. Has he been on any meds? I know pepto bismol will really darken their stool.

Sounds like time to go to the vet. Our little guy had loose stools for about 2 days and was less active and we took him to the vet to find he had an infection. I also agree with the other Yorkie talkers...blood=black stool in humans, and medicine may play a part. Good luck!:) I hope your little guy feels better ASAP!:love:

I think that hamburger has to much fat for these little guys can lead to pancreatitis. Boiled chicken is much better without any skin of course.

Mine have had the black stool. We took a stool sample to the vet to check for any parasites which was negative. It was gastroenteritis and can even be from stress. We were given some meds,a shot of fluid to prevent dehydration and a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice. They were all better in a few days.

Just take to the vet and good luck to you.

I made an appointment for tomorrow at another vet. This is the third vet since I've brought him home. I was just looking at him last night thinking poor little guy. Not even six months and he's been to the vet at least once every two weeks, been on nonstop medicine since 7 weeks old and his butt most be so sore from all of his diarrhea:(

I'm hoping this vet will finally figure out what is going on with him so his life can be normal.

Make sure he doesn't have an infection. Our Chibi had some kind of bacterial infection, his butt was sore and he even shaked a little as if in pain. We got antibiotics and he was better. The vet could tell because he looked at our Chibi's stool under the microscope. He got a sample from a thermometer he placed in his butt. Sorry it sounds gross, but hopefully your vet can check the stools as well!

There's the problem!!!!! All the medication are killing your dog. This needs to really stop! I got a foster that had been on medications for a few months and was almost dead when I got her. The Vet. and I took her off all meds. and just kind of started over with the very basic home cooking. It took me months to get her straightened out. It's terrible how the Vets. will be so quick to put a dog on medication especially if they don't even know what the problem is. Scary. I don't have a real answer for you, but it seems the medications are doing more harm than good.

Okay well thanks for the pick me up there.:( I hope you know i realize it's a lot of medicine. Why do you think I cry myself to sleep all the time. I don't know what to do. I"m not an expert and I expect the the vets who went to school to be professionals will guide me to do the right things. Therefore I'm following THEIR guidance. I have not been happy with what's going on which is why I'm going to a THIRD vet tomorrow and one of the things on my agenda is to discuss all this medicine.

He's been on medicine because he had worms when we got him, camplyobacter twice, a bacteria infection as well. I'm pretty sure you can't get rid of worms or camplyobacter without medicine but more recently I feel he's been put on medicince for something they don't really know. I'm trying and doing the best I can to make sure Boston gets healthy and Zoey stays healthy. It's so hard to constantly be worrying and stressed out especially when he can't tell me what's wrong with him:( He just cuddles up and wants me to protect him.

Tara, your doing a great job, and following what your told to do, and I do think he was diagnosed right with like you said worms are worms and if they are there you have to medicate, and the campy, well that was the strangest thing ever! How it came back and you are sooo careful and do everything like your told. I am certain my vet will listen and agree the meds maybe over the edge a little, but that is not your fault. I promise my vet is very open and listens and I assure you, you will gets some answers and if she doesnt know them, there were many times she had all 3 vets in the room involved in what was going on with me. They just don't leave things left open for you to guess or send you home paying a huge bill and some meds. You will know exactly what he is being treated for and if she doesnt know right off the bat with reviewing his files she will find you an answer! I hope your finding a little comfort in this and you know how much I care and if you want me to go to the vet with you, I will. I always try and have someone go because I get so nervous I dont ask everything I meant to or forget what they say sometimes. Just let me know. Hold your head up and repeat after me....Everything is going to be okay!!!!!!:D Call me later if ya need to talk.

Hey there - medication can do this to a degree - but if you're feeling it's not quite right I'd def go back to the vet - the bad thing about liquid stools is they can dehydrate really quick so you want him checked for that.

As far as food - I don't 'do' hamburger for my girls sick or healthy - it always upsets their tummies - why not try some chicken ??

I hear ya it HAS been awhile. I started on the chicken today. I think Zoey is in heaven...she's like yeah chicken, this is my fav.....Of course she gets it too because Boston does:) I'm starting to feel in my gut..mommy instincts that Boston's trouble is sensitive stomach and I'm hoping that tomorrow they'll tell me to quite the flagyl and work things back into his diet that dont' upset his tummy.

if his trouble is a sensitive tummy then that really would be great because I know you must be worried sick over all this. It's always best to check with the vet before doing something new but I'd see how the chicken goes - maybe a little white rice if they say that's ok and hopefully he'll start feeling better ....the medication will cause changes in their stool - that's where it's going to be hard to tell if the chicken is helping or not - I don't envy you and GOOD LUCK !! I hope to see a happy post next time you update us on Boston -

my chewie has the runs now for two days, i'll have to try rice and chicken, which i'm always afraid to try any thing new cuz his tummy gets upset any time he tries any thing other than his purina pro. i think he got a hold of a animal cookie with a lite glaze.it happened before when he got into the cat food:( the fur around his bottom looks funny cause i keep having to hose it down, all curly:) you are not too far from me I am in grosse ile.

Hey Tara - how is Boston doing now, any changes???

Tara hasnt been getting on here she is a busy busy girl...probably sitting home watching the Tigers right now...;) So, I can update you and let ya know Boston has had solid stool for over 2 weeks now :) He was over Saturday evening and he fell deep in puppy love with Ada, my sisters Yorkie. It was the most hilarious thing I'd ever seen. The rolled around and chased each other for an hour. Boston kept back up next to her and peeing, must have wanted her to smell his manly slef, too bad she is spayed but ya cant blame a boy for tryin! :p
