Food What do you feed your Yorkie? Archie is REALLY picky. He likes to eat whatever I'm eating, and he likes new foods, but he hates when I feed him the same thing for a long period of time. The bigger problem is that he rarely ever touches the dry food and I want him to have more of it because it's more nutritious and helps with his teeth. The innova wet food is really working out, so I'd like to stick with that, but I'm not sure about the dry Eukanuba he was being fed. I also tried Nutro but with little luck. Is the Royal Canin really as good as everyone says? Can I get it at Petco? I just wish he would eat food when I give it to him. P.S. I'm not going to give him food for 15 minutes and take away his dish to train him to eat when I give him food...I just can't do that. He likes to save some food for later and munches a bit before going to bed at night. |
Mia eats the Royal Canin Mini Dog. Tiny dry triangles. You might try requesting a sample from their site - in another of my posts - or PetsMart has some sample bags sometimes. Our Petco carries Royal Canin too, but more expensive. A 3 lb bag lasts Mia about 6 wks. - Puppy is $6.99 here and Yorkie adult food is $9.99. HTH Julie |
Make sure what ever food you give them that is does not have corn or corn meal. I tried all kinds of food because my yorkie was digging himself until he bled!!! A lot of times they are alergic to corn!!! |
yeah, I heard that too. I'm just really concerned about what they put in pet food, so I've switched to natural stuff. The innova has human-grade meat. The ingredients are: turkey, chicken, potatoes, brown rice, eggs, apples, carrots, cottage cheese, garlic and alfalfa sprouts. I heard that this was really good for dogs with sensitive stomachs and Archie does like it. The dry food is harder to get him to eat, though. I DON'T MEAN TO SOUND CRAZY, but IF YOU DO FEED YOUR DOG COMMERCIAL DOG FOOD, PLEASE TRY NOT TO! It's really really bad what they put in there...the meat is just waste that they are not allowed to feed humans, ie: chicken beaks, heads, feet, pig snouts, and now they say, maybe even dogs and cats. http://www.commondreams.org/headlines02/0106-04.htm |
i heard of innova, always wanted to try but never found it here in miami:( I have fed Mojo Royal Canin, Eukanuba, Nutro and now i am feeding the New zealand lamb&rice from eukanuba. I think it is very important that we buy a "super premium" food for our yorkies, they eat so little and for that it has to be a very good food to keep their bodies nourished. Now...of course our food and dog food will be different, humans and dogs have different needs... |
Source of quality dog food for less Guys go to http://www.petfooddirect.com They have all the best brands of dog food (Wysong, Solid Gold, Innova) and at discount prices - mailed to your home! |
I just got back from the vet and she told me that her dog LOVES innova, and she had to try and keep it away from him. She also said that dry and wet innova are essentially the same ingredients, but with the wet, you're paying for the canning process. I also got a greenie for Archie there...We've never tried it... |
Shagger loves greenies!!! I cant get it away from him, he will run and hide and eat it. I also have been giving him animal crackers as a treat instead of bones. They are small and they have no fat in them!! |
I don't even know what a greenie is. I just picked it up at the vet's office. It looks like a piece of wax and my boyfriend tried to take a bite of it (yeah, I know...that's another chat forum...). Do they eat it or is it a chew thing? It looks like a giant wax toothbrush! |
It is hard, not so much on the chewy side but it breaks apart. They dont seem to have a problem with eating them and breaking them into small pieces. |
Yup, Greenies are like a drug to them or something! They gnaw away at it, good for their teeth, and they do eat it. Then they poop out green poop the next day! Here's some Greenies talk: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=863 |
I"m new to the board. I have a 12 wk old Yorkie. I recently been trying him on Blue Buffalo. Its suppose to have more real meat instead of fillers. Not sure how much he likes he. He tends to play with his food then eventually eat it. I agree Greenies are like a drug he LOVES them. :) |
I went to the pet store to get Archie more food, got drawn in and here are the results: Canidae sucks. He hates it! He took it and actually walked away and spit it out. I guess he doesn't like fish, because it had a bit of fish in it. I haven't tried the Dick Van Patten brand (and I'm a little bit scared to, to tell you the truth). But I was successful with Neura 95% Beef. He LOVED it. Has anyone had any positive experiences with Neura? Before this becomes his staple, I'd like to do some research. Also, I switched his dry food from Eukanuba, which is what he was fed before I got him, to Innova dry, and he likes the Innova dry more than he liked the Innova wet food, so I think I'm going to stick with that. |
i feed toby eujkanuba petit....... what you could do for a little "variety" is feed youre normal dry food, and mix in a little babyfood and a teeny water, the babyfood should coat the dry food and give it a little "variety" in taste, and with teh babyfood, (it is fit for humans to eat, so it is good quality that you are mixing with youre dog food) and there are tons of babyfood flavors to choose from....... toby's favorite is teh beef and vegtable and turky vegetable..... |
That's what Archie was eating...Eukanuba petit, but he didn't take well when we mixed the food. He likes if it's in different dishes, or in one dish, but kept separately. When I mixed the foods, he would eat everything and spit out the kibble after eating the wet food. But when I keep them separate, he eats both. I can only imagine the things that must be going through my dog's head... |
