Stinky breath Michelle......I have been told by several people that Yorkies are known for their bad breath. I will tall you something that has helped mine though. I started buying him Paul Newman organic treats...not sure why, but they have helped! My baby has a tender tummy.....so I look for things that are natural. When I bought these, I never thought they would help his breath!! But they did! |
Does she have a retained baby tooth. If so that is what is causing the smelly breath |

Pixie has terrible breath for a young girl. When I had her in recently for an er visit the vet said she had gingivitis. I looked and her gums were all dark red inflamed. She had eaten kibble most of her life and still has bad teeth and gums, Cali who is older by 6 months and eats less kibble and retained her baby teeth has much better teeth and gums. I recently ordered Petzlife and use it every daay and her breath is getting better and her gums are less red. I am going to take her to the regular vet and see what they say. |
I heard the Petzlife is suppose to be good. |
Baby teeth.... |
I use Oxyfresh for Tini, she's nine and only had to to have her teeth cleaned once at 6. It keeps the plaque down to minimun, gums are free from inflammation and her breath is kissing fresh. This product was recommened to me by my vet. You can find it on the web if you do a search. |
re Oxyfresh Do you always buy your Oxyfresh from the internet? Do you know if any stores carry it as well? I'm always interested in saving on the shipping cost of things. Also what size bottle do you recommend to start? I was thinking of just trying the product that is added to his drinking water or can be sprayed into th mouth twice per day. Thanks:) |
Your yorkie is probably teething. Later, retained baby teeth would be the cause. You should brush their teeth, though. |

Just another possibility - When my Shi Tzu was a puppy, he had HORRIBLE breath. When being neutered I asked the vet to take a look. He found, waaaay in the back, a piece of carpeting or stuffed animal or something that had gotten caught on a back tooth and had rotted. EEEWWWWW. It wasn't visible until he was asleep and the vet could really take a good look back there. He said that they chew so much on everything, that can happen. And if you can't see it, ...... well, you can only smell it!! |
