Hi, and welcome to YorkieTalk! That's great that you're asking about the food. Purina is not a high quality food in my opinion...And Mighty Dog and Cesar's are not either. There are many reasonably priced high premium dog foods that you could buy instead, or better yet, you could try homecooking for her. www.dogfoodanalysis.com is a good starting point. Try to find a 4 or 5 star food. Look up their websites online and see if they have any stores that sell those foods near you. There's a sticky in the Health & Diet section that has a bunch of recipes for cooking for your dog too. An excellent book to get started with is Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Health, but there are others as well... |

My breeder had my puppy on Pro Plan, which he liked because the size of the kibble was very small. However, Pro Plan isn't very good food so I switched him to Blue Buffalo. Blue Buffalo doesn't use any by products, artificial preservatives, artificial color, etc. Here's the link to their site http://www.bluebuff.com/products/dog...otection.shtmlAt first my little 3 month old boy didn't seem very into the Blue Buffalo because the kibble is bigger than what he was eating before and he doesn't like chewing his food for too long, but now he really likes it. Here are the ingredients for the Blue Buffalo chicken and brown rice recipe I feed him: Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Whole Ground Brown Rice, Whole Ground Barley, Oatmeal, Rye, Whole Potatoes, Chicken Fat (preserved with Natural Mixed Tocopherols), Menhaden Fish Meal (natural source of DHA-Docosahexaneoic Acid), Tomato Pomace (natural source of Lycopene), Natural Chicken Flavor, Whole Carrots, Whole Sweet Potatoes, Dried Egg, Blueberries, Cranberries, Flaxseed, Barley Grass, Dried Parsley, Alfalfa Meal, Kelp Meal, Taurine, L-Carnitine, L-Lysine, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Green Tea Extract, Turmeric, Garlic, Sunflower Oil (natural source of Omega 6 Fatty Acids), Herring Oil (natural source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids), Fructooligosaccharides, Monooligosaccharides, Dried Chicory Root, Black Malted Barley, Oil of Rosemary, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin C, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Beta Carotene, Calcium Ascorbate (source of Vitamin C), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Niacin (Vitamin B3), Calcium Pantothenate (Vitamin B5), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Thiamine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B1), Folic Acid, Biotin, Choline Chloride, Calcium Phosphate, Zinc Amino Acid Complex (source of Chelated Zinc), Iron Amino Acid Complex (source of Chelated Iron), Copper Amino Acid Complex (source of Chelated Copper), Manganese Amino Acid Complex (source of Chelated Manganese), Potassium Amino Acid Complex (source of Chelated Potassium), Cobalt Proteinate (source of Chelated Cobalt), Dicalcium Phosphate, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Selenite, Salt, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bacillus subtilis, Bifidobacterium thermophilum, Bifidobacterium longum, Enterococcus faecium. You can get a sample of their food from their website if you go to the compare dog food section :) Desiree & Eros |
Avery has been on Canidae All Stages since she was about 9 weeks. She loves it-and it is a really really good food for them. (no yucky stuff added in) It is also meant for ALL types of dogs at every age.. Puppy through adult, senior etc. :) I get it at my local feed store-and isnt bad on price. |
Chicken livers My phoebe is no day 55 of her pregnancy and not eating much. My husband went out and bought her some chicken livers fpr me to cook for her, or they safe, or should I just stick with chicken breast and not give her the liver?? |
I feed Royal Canine, that is specially formulated for Yorkies. Here is a link to the webiste. http://www.royalcanin.us/dogfood/yorkshirebook.html |
I just started my little guy on Nutro Ultra...but you're making me rethink that decision.... going to have a go at the Royal Canine. |
Just switched Lucy (17 weeks) and Max and Mazie (7 years) to Canidae All Life Stages, they all love it and I have noticed that lucy's poops more regularly and they are solid. Also she has more energy as do my mom's older yorkies. I would def. recommend trying it! I got a free sample ordered from the website and the price of the food isn't bad at all. $9 for a 5lb bag and $27 for a 20 lb bag :) |
i love chicken soup i usto feel Nutro ultra its not bad but my girls love chicken soup i also use solid gold but its hard to find in my area |
My breeder had Kingston on Mighty Dog for wet food and my vet said it was like the McDonalds of canned food. Now I just free feed Canidae dry food. |
all natural human grade Whatever you feed your baby, just check the ingredients. Make sure there is NO CORN:thumbdown , NO WHEAT:thumbdown , & NO BY-PRODUCTS:thumbdown :thumbdown !! I sell the LIfe's Abundance Premium All Natural Human Grade Dog & Cat foods and treats. We love the idea of it being delivered straight to our door from the manufacturing plant. No need to worry about trying to find it!! This food is created by a vet and is made fresh every week so it hasn't been sitting in a warehouse or store shelf for who knows how long. My girls love it and the kibble is small enough for my 2 pounder too. I have free samples if you are interested in trying it. Just PM me your address and i'll send you one in the mail! :) Just check out all the information on each product. I personally wouldn't feed my girls any product that had any kind of recall on it. The canned foods can promote tooth decay if no kibble is fed with it. You are smart to check them all out so that you can feed your baby the best food available. They depend on us to give them the best!! Their lives depend on it!! :) Click here to watch a video about what is actually in dog foods.
