Yorkie with Struvite crystals and infections in Paris I've been in Paris since June 1. My 5 year old Yorkie Diva started showing signs of tucking, licking and bleeding mid June. Turns out that she has struvite crystals in her urine PLUS two different infections in her vagina. So she has been put on antibiotics which I really dont like to do since she is a liver shunt survivor. As long as I've had her, I've home fed her organic foods and probiotics of enzmes, acidifulis and bifidus. But I cant take the chance of not giving her these meds to risk the chance of her getting worse since we are still in this foreign country. Also, the vet prescribed Hils S/D to disolve the struvites. Now here is the problem. The antibiotics are making her dour and down. She also seems hungry all the time which indicates that her belly might be burning. I am givng her some yogurt to ease her tummy now and then. I am also making chicken broth (no chicken) for her to drink to keep her hydrated and to help pass the crystals. But she is always hungry. Now this S/D is not food as far as I am concerned. And vet wants her on it for THREE months???? Does anyone know if I can give her any other food besids S/D? For 4 years now I have been giving her a 9:00 pm cookie or apple slice. She waits for 9:00. Tonight nothing. She is wondering whats wrong? Can I give her an apple slice or will this mess up the chemistry of what the S/D is doing? Thankfully we fly home next week. How in the hell am I going to have her hold her urine for 12 hours is beyond me. What a nightmare. Help! |
I will be praying for you. As far as holding her pee...Is she flying in the cabin with you or in cargo? If in the cabin, I am sure you can bring her into the bathroom with a pee pad and see if she'll go??? Or if she is in cargo, line her crate with pee pads and towels, and hopefully if she has to go, she will??? Or is she an ONLY pee outside girl??? |

Flying in cabin I would never put Diva in cargo. She is flying with me. I tried pee pads, she wont go on them. Does yours? |
