Various symptoms...I am so worried, rash, fast breathing, panting, I am either a nut case or this is the most unhealthy dog ever. I have posted before to say she has had more problems than either of my other two together. I have taken her to the er vet 3 times . She has inverse sneezes and frequently has stomach upsets, and quickly dehydrates. However in the last few months there have been several symptoms I have really worried about, some of which come and go. #1. She pants alot...even when it is not hot out...also her at rest breathing is much higher rate than normal. I took her to the vet for this several months ago and he said "it must be normal for her, some dogs pant more than others." (but she never did this before) #2 She is a very picky eater though she is 9lbs so does eat something and has frequent gurgling stomach, vomiting, and loose stools (probably twice a week) #3 she has a very itchy rash for the last week which is driving her crazy (this is the second incident like this) Vet said it was hives and gave me a combo antihistamine and steroid, but it is not going away. I dont know if any of these are related at all to each other but I am very worried. Sitting here watching her breathing, next to my other two dogs, she breaths almost twice as fast. She seems to tire so easily and doesnt like to play anymore. She is only 2 yrs. old so its not age. I wonder about heartworm or some kind of heart problem.(she is my sons dog who I inherited and the did not do heartworm prevention) I guess the rash could be allergies and not related to the breathing thing. He did give me a special dog food to try by Hills, but she wont touch it, so I went back to home cooking I like my vet, but I just feel he may be missing something. What do you think? Anyone with similar problems? Thanks Laura |
One of my 1st thoughts after reading about the 2x weekly loose stools was a food allergy or ibd/ibs/colitis - but then I see that you home cook. What are feeding? I wonder if she's having a reaction to something. Loose stools twice a week is def. not normal. Has she had a fecal test? Plus the rash, and her feeling "hot" - it almost sounds like a systemic histamine reaction to something...but what? Have you had her allergy tested - that might help? Poor baby! I feel so bad for her, she sounds miserable. But, she has a good Mom who is trying to get to the bottom of this. I'm sure others will have good suggestions - so hang in there and have faith that you'll figure this out! :) |
I would get a second opinion if I were you. Even for the allergies but especially for the breathing. Your vet seems a little broad in his diagnosis to me. I would want and expect more definitive answers than these you seem to be getting. |
I agree with Diva and I would want an xray of her heart. Second part, what do you clean your floors with as it sounds to me she is allergic to something and I would also have a fecal test run. |
thanks for the suggestions I think you are all right. If I do not see any improvement next week, I will take her in again and ask to see the other vet in the office. Also a fecal test and heart xray cant hurt. She seems a little better today so, of course, I am less worried , but that is the problem, it comes and goes, but she is definetly not the same dog she was even 6 months ago. Thanks again. This dog is defintely very high maintenance, but I love her so much. Laura |
