I cant find anything my dogs like to eat...am so frustrated! I have 3 dogs so feeding can be expensive...thank goodness they are all little ones. I am struggling to find food they will eat. I always feed my first two, the Little Cesars wet food and kept out dry kibbles and bits...I guess they ate enough to stay healthy, though many times I threw away the wet food the next day when they didnt touch it. Then I got the Yorkie who has a very delicate digesive system. At first I feed them all the same food still, but hen when I realized how much money I was wasting, I began to experiment. At the same time I found Yorkie talk and shortly after that the recalls on dog food came. To be honest, I had never given that much thought to what my dogs eat, but now that I have, they seem to eat even less. About 2 months ago I decided to home feed them. I have been cooking either ground chicken, beef, or turkey. I cook it and mix it with brown rice or oatmeal, sometimes a little cheese, and the Missing Link. At first they seemed to like it, more than the Cesar but now it seems they hardly touch it. Sometimes they go back to it hours after I put it out, but I keep thinking thats not healthy and usually i throw it away if they dont eat it in about 5 hours (and maybe I should throw it away sooner). I have tried some of the brands mentioned here, like Merrick and Wellness but they didnt take one bite of those either. My husband says just put down a good quality dry food and they will eat when they are hungry. That sure would be easier, but Im not sure they would eat. They are the pickiest animals Ive ever had. I would do anything for them and even though I am a laughing stock in my family cause iI cook for my dogs, I dont mind if they ate it. What can I do? With 3 I really need to think about cost, but I want them to be healthy too. Any suggestions for the really picky dogs? Thanks so much Laura |
SOLID GOLD WEE BITS IS GOOD AND IS MADE FOR LITTLE DOGS, THAT IS WHAT i HAVE CHESTER ON, IT IS BISON AND SALMON MEAL, SMALL KIBBLE AS WELL. |
i ALSO PUT SOME WET FOOD ON HIS DRY AND MIX IT UP, I USE ADDICTION WET FOOD GOOD STUFF AND SOLID GOLDS WET FOOD IS MADE BT EVANGERS WHICH IS ALSO GOOD. |
I thought Kingston was a picky eater at first because he didn't eat much the first couple of days so I started just putting dry food down and free feeding. Then I noticed he goes and takes a couple bites of his food throughout the day. I guess he's a grazer. |
I agree with your husband, put out a good quality dry food and they will eat if they get hungry. The more you cater to them, the pickier they become. You can even give them several choices of dry food. I had 5 different brands going for a while one of which was plain old Purina Puppy Chow. They finally seemed to eat the Royal canine over all the rest. Now to get rid of the other, I put a little of that with their Royal Canine and if they"re hungry they eat it. I give mine each a tablespoon of wet pedigree in the morning and evening, just incase they don't eat anything else. they gobble that right down while I stand there. then they get Royal Canine puppy. I also put out the Royal Canine Yorkshire because two of the dogs are too old for the puppy. They eat the puppy first, and then will eat the other if they are hungry. Some days they barely touch any of it, but the next day I might have to fill the bowl twice. |
