quick benadryl question This is Layla's first full day taking the chidlren's liquid dye free benadryl and all she has really done today is eat and sleep... it's hot here so that might be why, but is this from the benedryl? |
I'm not sure but Abbie seems to get sleepy also when she takes benadryl. The vet recommended that I give it to her before I take her on long trips in the car because she gets so anxious. So I'm assuming that it is to calm her a bit |
benedryl knocks me out personally :) so it wouldn't surprise me if it was doing the same to Layla |
I'm leaving for Florida next week, driving from Dallas. Last time I tried to give Natalie the benedryl she wouldn't take it, any tips? |

Marci, I PM'ed you back on this... But for everyone else-Emma was on it for a while last summer for allergies, and first it made her CRAZY and then she CRASHED for hours. Completely normal! |
Thanks, I'll try that. We went to the yorkie meet in Dallas today, 40 minute ride each way and she whined the whole time. I can't do that for 2 days each way. |
Benadryl has the same active ingredient (diphenhydramine) as Tylenol PM. It's a double-duty medication! |

Ask your vet about different antihistimes. He took our Me-Me off benadryl and put her on Hydroxyzine HCI 5mg twice a day. She sleeps better at night with not as much scratching with her allergies. Until she got her shots yesterday and nothing is helping at the moment. Me-Me has flaky skin now and runs so hot afterwards. It goes away in a few days hopefully. She is 3 pounds when wet so she has to take the cat dose cut in half. Childrens benadry was something like 0.05 for her. |
Definetly put her on her back, and slide the side of her mouth open. Squirt the bendadryl down, and rub her neck so she'll swallow it. |
My Bella has used the cherry flavored benadryl and she loves it. She will just sit or lay down waiting for it when I need to give it to her. I have used it when she has bad allergies but also when I fly from Germany to the states we use it to help her on the long flight. It does make her sleepy but that's about the only thing she can do in her carrier on the trip anyway!! |
Benadryl is also used as a sleeping pill for elderly people who can't tolerate anything stronger. And Benadryl knocks me out too, so I have no doubt that it's what's making your baby sleepy. |
Can someone tell me where they buy the dye free Benedryl? Our vet recommended that I give it to Wesley since he gets so anxious in the car, but I can't seem to find dye free and flavor free Benedryl anywhere. |
