Yorkies skin/dandruff My yorkie (15 weeks) has the worst/dryest/flakiest skin i've ever seen. He also has dandruff (of course). Don't know what to do. He had flees when I got him but that was about a month and a half ago and they are gone. I don't know why he is having such skin problems - also itches a lot. Go to the vet tomorrow, last time just tried to sell me an expensive shampoo without really looking at his skin. Wondering if anyone has thoughts / suggestions, wondering if it could be skin mites or is it just dry skin? |
what shampoo/conditioner are you using????? |
johnson and johnson baby shampoo/ vet said it was okay way back when I got first yorkie. I used pantene conditioner on him tonight, but the dandruff was horrific. His poor skin seems thin and is so dry. |
How did you get rid of the fleas? Was it a shampoo that might of dried out his skin? |
Maybe you could try a dog shampoo that contains oatmeal...that might help. Also consider what food you are feeding him. |
I also would suggest a shampoo with oatmeal and a good conditioner. What are you feeding him? Could be allergic to something? |
Garett too Garett has had terrible dandruff, I tried the oatmeal shampoos, conditioners, medicated, etc. What worked really well for me is the mink oil conditioner (I cannot think of the name, but I am going to purchase more this weekend, so I will get it), dandruff seems to be a result of extra dry skin and this mink oil conditioner takes care of most of it. I will repost the name when I get the darn stuff. |

My Bella is itchy too. I used the shampoo on here that someone recommended with Ivory dish washing liquid, vinegar and some kind of oil. That worked good. I also quit bathing her so often. Now I do dry shampoo when she needs it so that I don't have to bath so often. :animal-sm |

Riley used to have really dry skin too! He scratched a lot (No he didn't have fleas or mites) All of his scratching caused him to get lots of little scabs where he scratched and dandruff. We switched to Fresh N' Clean Oatmeal and Baking Soda Shampoo and Conditioner and we love it. It smells great and Riley's dry skin problem was solved. :D |
My puppy (now 6 mo.) had severe dandruff, too. Although it was a little expensive, I got an emollient shampoo from my vet and it worked wonderfully! The flakes are gone, but I still use it on him AND on my female and their coats are so shiny and pretty. |
I use Vets Coice skin and coat conditioner that you put in the food(it's an oil) and it makes a world of difference. You can almost see the change in the coat in a day ot two. It stops the itching...everywhere and scabby sores on the skin! |
Abbi is 14 months old and just recently been having lot of problems with her skin. I am so tired of seeing her itch all the time and she has scabs all on her legs and tail and just everywhere. I just want to know the best solution for the problem because I want to help her feel and look better FAST. :animal-pa |
