Tetley is now a home-fed pup! I've been meaning to switch him to a pure homecooking menu for a while but it was just a case of getting to the health food store to buy all that stuff to make Dr. Pitcairn's Healthy Powder mix. It cost me like $50 for all those vitamins and supplements! Oh well, at least it will last him a long long time, and when you think of what a bag of Missing Link costs... I made him the Doggie Oats recipe with raw ground turkey and he devoured it! :D For those of you who feed from Dr. Pitcairn's book, what are your favorite recipes? |
Wahoo! Another one in the club! Welcome! I've only been in the club for a month or so, but my furgirls LOVE it, and are doing really well on their new diet. Don't worry about the cost for supplements-they should last a long time. The only thing I had a harder time finding online was Kelp Powder, but I ended up going to my local natural foods store, and it was CHEAP...like 56 cents or something an OUNCE. (BTW, they will ship, if you need more, and yours is really expensive, PM me and I will give you their website/number.) I have made the doggie oats and the one to one on pg 71. I use different variations of the one to one-it's so easy! You can also cut that recipe in 1/2 easily. I have made it with stew-beef, kidney beans, brown rice, and carrots, and then subbed turkey, and egg for the meat, and sweet potato and corn for the carrots. I actually don't think the carrots are in there, but my dogs love them so I add veggies to everything. Another idea-I use liquid Vitamin E oil drops in a bottle. Much cheaper and easier than the capsules. Just count the drops out! |
CONGRATS!!! and good job!!! Layla gets the doggie oats, i just switch up the different foods and i think the next time i make it i'm going to use more meat and less grains.... see how she likes that :) |

I bought human grade bone meal powder but I think I'll go buy the solid gold bone meal next time, it's about the same price but twice the amount. I just bought this one for the sake of convenience. Solid Gold has a better calcium to phosphorus ratio though. Mine is 1000 mg calcium to 500 mg phosphorus. Also...I DID buy the Vit E in the dropper bottle! But I think I put too much. How many drops do you use to make 100 iu? I'm so happy to be doing right by my pup :) He's my little everything |

What other veggies have you tried? I think I'm going to try zucchini on him next. :) |

1 to 1 is the easiest, I think. I like to switch up the ingredients to see what they like. So far, everything! I really like to use orange veggies like carrots and sweet potatoes, since they have lots of Vitamin A and then I don't have to use it in the supplement. I think mine is 10 IU per drop...so I put in 30-40 drops to get the recommended 300 to 400 in each recipe. But, I've probably made 4-5 recipes, and my small bottle is only about 1/2 used up! And I think it was like $3 for the bottle-can't beat that! |
