skin rash (tiny black scabs)
 
Hi,
Maddi, my 6 year old yorkie has a "rash" on her back. It looks like tiny back scabs or scales on her back, just above her tail. When I scratch her back I can feel them and I want to pick them of with my nails. They do not itch or hurt her. Has anyone seen or heard of this and is there a solution? Could it be dry skin? She gets a bath about every week or two. I have tried medicated shampoos for allergies and that did nothing.

I would appreciate your help.

Could be skin allergies or a reaction to flea bites. I agree...pictures would help.

Also, the pom that we had had scaley stuff around the base of his tail. It was from urine burns. I shampooed him with some aloe vera shampoo I got from the vets and it cleared up after a couple of shampooings.

Have you just given her her shots. My Oliver had a similar spot of blackish, scaly, and hair loss about the size of a quarter. They treated him with a short round of prednisone and gent. spray and it cleared up. She thought it may have been a weird reaction to his rabies vacc. He did not scratch at his and it was not red.

My schnauzer gets this. I took her to the vet and they said it is "schnauzer bumps" common in schnauzer. Here is some info from a schnauzer web site. Maybe yorkies get it too since both are terriers?



SCHNAUZER BUMPS: "Schnauzer bumps" or schnauzer comedone syndrome, is a condition affecting schnauzers that produces pus filled bumps which are most often located on the Back of the dog. It is an inherited condition present throughout the dog's life and there is no cure. However, there are some things that have provided relief to dogs with this problem.

1. Use a dandruff shampoo, such as Selsun Blue, or one called SeboRx, available from your vet.
2. Keep your dog in a stripped coat or clipped very short.
3. Use vitamin E daily.
4. Bathe dog on a regular basis.
5. If allergy related, try changing food. Try avoiding foods containing "corn".
Some breeders have found that sunshine seems to improve this problem. Schnauzer comedone syndrome seems to be less of a problem during the summer months.

Thanks for this info.. I will try this..I am also going to put something on them to try to loosen them up...a stay-in moisturizer, let it sit and try to use a flea comb to clear up this problem. ps your baby is absolutely adorable.:coolpics:

She has not had any shots lately, but she has this on her back for quite a while. it just seems to be getting worse. Thanks for the input.:)

Apollo gets tiny little black spots, and they do itch him, never seen a flea on him, he is on Frontline plus, so far he had a spot on his leg, but he seems to have them on the back of ear and neck . He does scratch them. Took him to vet and he gave me Gentocin.:confused: :confused: :confused: His food does not have corn in it ! Thought it was the Minksheen i was using, but have used different shampoo and conditioner, so i dont think this is it, very puzzled !

Help!!! 911 please help!!
 
I bought my yorkie around 3 weeks ago and she is about 5 months old now.
I was just playing with her and found a dry patch of skin by her neck.
It's a bit bigger than a quarter and it seems kind of scabbish here n there. I found some other scabby parts on her body but not a patch like the one on her neck. I'm so scared and I have no idea what it is!!
PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I have 2 girls with this issue, right now. First it started with Tawny about 3 weeks ago...and yesterday, I just noticed 2 little bumps on Dixie. It wouldn't be contagious would it? We are going to change food and see if it helps, but I'm worried it may be something else. Any other suggestions?

I am no expert, but I imagine this could be caused by many things. My experience, with Piccolo and black spots, was a vaccine reaction. Are you able to post pictures? Also, I always recommend a Vet Dermatologist, if a skin issure is severe. Hope things get better.
