brewers yeast & garlic tabs for fleas Has anyone had any luck using brewers yeast & garlic tablets to repel fleas?? http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/produc...bs/999045.aspx |
If you sprinkle a little nutritional yeast on their food and add a bit of fresh garlic, it will help repel fleas and eliminates worms, etc. I have read that raw garlic is better than garlic tabs. |
I use a tsp of fresh chopped garlic when I cook up a weeks worth of food for Lillybelle, havent had to use Advantix this summer. Havent seen a single flea or tick either--like a miracle. We are outside everyday. |
Do they like the garlic generally? I am guessing you just buy garlic from your local grocery....? And the yeast...do I need to get a special form or anything? Thanks for your help...I used Advantage on her earlier and I washed it off bc it smelled like pure chemicals. |

I always give the brewers yeast tab with the garlic. Lulu loves it like it's a goodie. I just started giving her the interceptor for heartworm. The vet recommended that because it's the one he said seems to work best with the yorkies he treats and he has never had any problems or reactions to it. |

but I am sure each dog is different. |
Heart Worm. I havent heard of a natural heart worm preventative but would find one interesting. The first thing the vet and I talked about today was heart worm....my appointment was late and she had worked all day so she shut the door and sat down to relax a bit....she was telling me how she is having a bad day and diagnosed 2 heartworms cases today!!! She seemed concerned and wanted to make sure i was giving heartworm meds. Which I am. Diggy is on revolution and Bella interceptor she seemed pleased. SHe got out the model heart and showed the effects of heartworm....wow I never knew what they did to the heart and she explained they are treatable usually over the course of 4-5 years!!! And the damage they do is irreversable. :( I was glad she explained it all to me and I will NEVER go without heartworm protection....scared me! |
Black walnut is a natural heartworm preventative. Look it up :) If your baby eats wet food, it would be easy to just put a tiny little bit of raw garlic mixed in with the wet food. Or if your baby won't eat it like that, mix it in with some cottage cheese or anything like that. Supposedly raw garlic has active enzymes that are very beneficial that are not found in pill form garlic. |
yippie... a heartguard alternative Quote:

Do lots of research on the black walnut before you start using it...It comes either in liquid form that you can add to their water or in pill form. You want to make sure that you give the right dosages and do all the research necessary first. I have not started using the black walnut for my babies yet. I just keep them on healthy homemade diets that include garlic and spray them down with essential oils before they go outside which is not that often. |
My 2-cents I raise rawfed dogs and I'm on several forums. I've read a bit on Diatomaceous Earth being used for indoor/outdoor application to rid homes of fleas, ants, ticks, etc. It's also used to kill parasites and worms. My maltipoo had diarrhea that didn't go away so I added 1/4 tspn of DE to her ground turkey and it cleared up quick. For those who have had incidents with parasites, it's a cheap, ongoing additive because you never know when dogs or cats eat stuff that has an adverse affect on them. Putting or adding DE to foods, lawn, carpets, food (etc) is like providing a pool of glass shards for the insects; and it also dehydrates them as well. Hope that helps. |
I'll tell ya what.....I used it EVERY day year around and had NOOOOOOO flea problems whatsoever. THEN......I ran out of the tablets. Couldn't get more for about 2 weeks or so. The darned fleas jumped on my beloved dogs and drove them crazy:eek: . Not infested, but one flea is too many:mad: ! Now that they are flea free from having to do a treatment (which I wanted to avoid), I will start them back on the Brewer's Yeast and HOPE not to ever have give them a "treatment" again. In addition, that is a 8-in-one pill.....good for the skin, coat, etc. I give it:thumbup:  |
