garlic is it toxic for dogs? someone said in another thread that it is toxic for dogs. but i have always heard that giving garlic helps deter fleas. which i am having a problem with right now. i just don't want to hurt my baby and now i'm worried. |
Garlic in high amounts is toxic to them. There are garlic pills for dogs that are supposed to help with fleas |
I would not give them straight garlic. Garlic powder is often one of the last ingredients in even very high quality dog treats, so it is only harmful in large amounts. I wouldn't give them anything without asking the vet first. We've never had fleas. Mine get weekly baths with lavendar & mint shampoo that repels fleas. It works best if you let it sit on their fur for a few minutes. I've heard dawn dishsoap works if they already have fleas too. |

If you have washed her with Dawn and still have them they are probably in your carpet and your going to have to spray your carpet and wash her with dawn again |

You might try baby powder to get rid of fleas in the carpet sprinkle it really good on your carpet through out the house and leave it for 3-4 days it will suffocate them and your house will smell good . |
There are some flea sprays for carpet, but if its really bad you may have to get some flea bombs...and leave your house a few hours, all day or a couple days....I know years ago we had some cats that had fleas (before Lillybelle) and the only way we were able to get them out of the house was using the flea carpet sprays---it would probably be toxic for your yorkie so may have to let him stay somewhere for a few days-think they lay eggs in your carpet and furniture. You can get it at Walmart and such. I do add a tsp of fresh chopped garlic - I cook a weeks worth a time) of Lillybelle's food and I havent bought advantix since. |

If the fleas are really bad, you may have to get one of those flea bombs and do your whole house. I used to have a friend who did this because she dog sat in her own home for someone, and the dog had fleas really bad. She had to leave the house after she set the flea bomb to go off, and she had to take own dogs with her. She stayed gone overnight and then went back and thoroughly cleaned and vacuumed everything, including her furniture before she brought her dogs back. She never saw another flea. Good luck! |
You can grate garlic in the food or even take a clove and use a garlic press to just extract the juice. It will not harm them in any way. Garlic helps to eliminate worms, strengthen digestion, and beneficially stimulate the intestinal tract. It is also indicated for animals that have been on a high meat or fish diet, and those that tend to be overweight or suffer hip pain from arthritis or dysplasia. Cats can be given 1/4 clove per day. |
