Items in Canidae cans I wanted to know if anyone else has come across this... My babies are on Canidae can food and I have found a whole corn kernel in 1 can and in 4 cans I found a mass chunk of that looks like either an organ or ball of fat. I just wrote to Canidae to find out whats going on. We've just started Canidae and it has help everyone here with allergies especially Snuggles.( She no longer breaks out in sores:D ). I mix their food with my fingers to check for things, i just never thought id actually find something. And dumb me for listening to my husband who said to throw out the stuff i found:mad:. |
:idontknow I mix Phoebe Canidae with real food like ck breast, lean meat, rice, veggies etc.. maybe you can call them and find out directly from them. |
How strange.. especially the corn kernel. I didn't think Canidae had corn in it? |
That is strange and gross. I didn't think they used corn. I would call and talk to them directly. |
If you find out.... please post and let us know what they say. |
I just received my free sample of Canidae dried chicken and rice recipe. It came with a book, but nowhere in the book does it list corn. But this book also may be for the "dry" food. I don't know. I know my sample does list all the ingredients on the back of it. Check the back of your can for ingredients. And I'd sure call them about this, as I thought their food had no corn in it either. Keep checking the food too, and if they require you to send the corn in, by all means do so. All their food is guaranteed. And keep us posted on what all you find out. |
I feed the canidae dry food and my dog loves it. I was really disappointed when I found a big hunk of plastic in one of the canidae snap buscuits. When I contacted them they gave no explainations and just sent me coupons for 2 free bags  |

There was a thread a while back with email addresses and websites. I just went to the Canidae site and asked for samples. They sent me several sample size bags of dry. Both of mine love it. As soon as they finish their other dry food, that is what I am going to buy them! |
Oh goodness! How terrible! We feed dry food only and never had any problems! (((eeek))) I hope you don't!!!! |
Update: i called canidae today because my email didnt get a reply. They said that a different person handles the emails and that person was on vacation:confused: . anyway . i went on explaining what i found. the lady i spoke with said she doesnt know how corn got into the food but it "might " have gotten in because thats what some canneries use to clean the machines and she apologized. then with the sticky stuff. she said she is pretty sure its guar gum. the guar gum is supposed to travel to the edged on the can to create a jelly like barrier between the food and can but maybe its solidified before it reached the edge:confused: . She offered no other explanation and said would send me vouchers to replace the cans. I dont know how i feel about this. its pretty scary opening cans and never knowing what im going to find next. The babies like it and it has helped Snuggles with her allergies so i dont want to change it but this has turned me off a bit. |

I switched Mojo from Nutro Natural Choice after all the recalls and Lily Grace was on a different food Eukanuba Yorkshire Formula when we got her. We gradually switched both over to Canidea after much research. Everything on Mojo has improved....he will eat this food on his own, his caot is looking better, etc. I think when any food (even human food), there will always be that one mishap of something getting in the food. It is worrisome, but if your babies are doing good on this food, I don't know if I would let one mishap cause you to go on that long hard search of finding another good quality food that your babies will be able to eat. (I have been there too!) Course, this makes us all look at what we give to our pets and what we eat ourselves a lot closer! |
once I looked up guar gum myself , I felt better. Im keeping them on canidae because they look so healthy and happy on it. They eat it alone too. Which Snitch wouldnt do , even on Merricks. I would like them on dry but they refuse to eat it as a meal, they however are ok with nibbleing here and there between meals. My husbands thinks im paranoid:rolleyes:. Maybe i am but as long as they are healthy thats what matters to me. thanks for the support. |
I use Canidae Lamb & Rice Dry on all of my Yorkies But For my 4 mth old puppy I add Innova Puppy Can Food to her Canidae Kibble in the morning & evenings. I have not tried Canidae canned yet. Its not available here yet. |
I would be disappointed too if I were everyone that had had a bad experience. Unfortunately I fear that, every dog food company, and even Canidae (which I love) will always have mistakes like this. When it comes down to it each company has 1 priority and that's money! Sad, but true. We have seen problems with human food time and time again, so unfortunately I think even homecookers could experience problems from time to time. We shouldn't have to be afraid to feed our dogs and even ourselves for that matter. I hope Canidae works to resolve this problem and can provide a better answer. |

Thank you all for posting. We were going to switch to Canidae dry food for supplemental food, but after reading this, I think we're going completely homemade. I feel like we can't trust any brand anymore. Between the recalls, and other stories I've heard like these, I feel like there's so much room for improvement from the pet food companies. I realize there's lots of hype surrounding this right now, and that many things have been exposed that no one ever used to think about, so the small things end up being made into a big deal-but it IS a big deal! And it shouldn't happen in human food OR in pet food-these things could make our pets seriously sick! True, every company and even every homecooker might have a problem with something getting into the food at one time, but at least I know there won't be plastic or lumps of organ/guar gum in mine! EW! Maybe a yorkie hair or two :p but they've eaten those before I'm sure! |
