Any suggestions on how to fatten up my Lola I always accepted that my Lola was small. Now that I have Chewy, I realize how thin she is. She doesn't have much of an appetite, but I would love to add something to her diet that would make her gain another 1/2 lb or so. She is currently eating Merrick's canned food at night, mixed with a little boiled chicken breast. She will occasionally eat dry food too. The only one she seems to like is Chicken Soup for the Soul. Any suggestions? |
Also need help! My lil Destiny is too skinny also! What r we to do? She doesn't like kibble that much either, but I will try anything. I put a small amount with a lil water in the micro to soften it up a bit. Then mix it with Deli Fresh Turkey or Chicken; and sometimes Natural Balance. If anybody has any further suggestions, please help!! |
HOw old is she? I know my little guy wouldnt eat a lot either, and after all of his puppy teeth came out, he has been eating a lot more regularly. I have read on here that yogurt and cottage cheese is good for them too. Might try that? Good luck! I know it is hard to get em to eat...just stay with it. |
I hear ya - Marcel is 2.5 pounds, and I'm grateful for that much weight! He isn't "skinny" though. Sometimes it helps to make things more appetizing - you could sprinkle food w/ canned parmesan (my guys LOVE this), pour on a bit of chicken broth, you could add bits of tuna, cottage cheese. You could also withold the canned food few days - and feed boiled chicken w/ parmesan for those days, then go back to the canned. You alternate these things for variety. I'd also recommend feeding 4x day - that's what I did w/ Marcel during ages 4mths - 7mths. and it really helped maximize his gain. |
That's not a problem when you home cook. ;) I've had to cut down on my girls portions. :p |
Bogeys favorite I know that everytime I open the refrig. He wants Stoneybridge organic yogurt. He loves it & would as much as I would let him!! |
Yorkies are picky eaters, eh? or are all tiny breeds this picky with food---especially DRY FOOD? Missy was so tiny when we got her too. She was 3 pounds at 6 months.... we started to home cook for her instead. The usual---boiled chicken rice & veggies. Maccaroni & lean ground beef. And we'd give her some brown bread occassionally, since the vet said brown bread is much better than white bread. Now at 11 months, shes 4.5 pounds now. I hope when her baby teeth are all gone, she'll start eating dry food or something... she is a DOG, dogs need their dog food, but right now, she can careless about dog food lol. |
Long Road... Hello all! Thank you so much for the info! I really need it! Destiny is 8 mths and weighs 2 lbs 12 oz. She is skinny and very petite-not necessarily a good thing when it comes to her health. I would love to fatten her up by getting her to eat DOG food. Yes, human food may not be that bad for them, but as pups, my vet has said dog food is vital. So, I will continue to soften kibble and hand feed if I have to, not a problem at all. I know she will need her pup teeth pulled soon and I hope this will help also. Thanks again for all your advice folks! Dest and I really appreciate it!!:) |
Ahh she is so cute! I know my vet only allows my babies to eat dog food, he says that the food is especially made for them. Mine is almost 8 monts and weighs four lbs. |
