Is it okay to feed dry? Lucy has been on RC Mini Puppy since the beginning. The breeder told us to feed 1/4 cup twice a day. Since she is not much of an eater I give her 1/2 cup and let her free feed. She "almost" finishes the 1/2 cup (about 2/3rds). Am I feeding her correctly? I don't give her wet food and other than some chicken treats and some fruit and yogurt she doesn't get anything else. I did order some Missing Link and will be giving it to her with a bit of yogurt daily. Am I feeding her correctly? |
Sounds like you are doing fine to me. I free feed also and they always have food to eat whenever they want. I also add the missing link and give fruits and veggies. Sound like just what you ar doing only I feed Natural Balance. Mine arent crazy about canned food anyway. I just add a little bit of braunswieger for added flavor and they love it. |
My vet told me that it's really better for them to eat ONLY dry food. Of course, my Max will eat almost EVERYTHING, but he's used to having his canned food in the morning and evening, so I give him his dry food (it's better for their teeth, which small breeds esp. Yorkies are notorious for having bad teeth problems)in small amounts thru the day. I used to free feed his dry food until I realized he was eating wayyyyyy too much, LOL! But you're doing really well, and you should be very happy that your dog likes the dry food. That's the healthiest thing for them. I do give Max some chopped up and peeled apples sometimes ...I think veggies are good for them on the whole, I just have to be careful b/c we've had pancreatitis. |
What is missing link? |
Missing link is a food supplement :) |
I'm a new yorkie owner and feeding him Inova (?) dry food. He seems to like it and doesn't have any troubles, should I switch to something else. He is 12 weeks only and only weighs 1pd 11ounces. Also, we are training him outside, what happens in the winter, when he won't want to go out. Can we switch. thanks, |

They do love peeing in the snow though! Judy |
Thanks for your reply. I will try the pads, good idea to walk him on the leash to the pads. |
