My new yorkie has diahrea I have only had my baby for 1 week she is a year old and she has had diahrea for 2 days...i fasted her last night and this morning she started vomitting!!! People have been telling me it is because i switched her food, but i find this hard to believe....i mean she is 1 year old!!! Any advice??? |
do you have any stress medicine? I was given stress medicine for Toby when he came home because they get stressed easily in their new environments and that causes them to get diarrahea and vomit. Try to comfort her and maybe try feeding he some nutrical. If she doesn't get any better within 24 hours I would take her to see a vet. |
It is possible that she has diahrea from changing the food if you didn't do so gradually (by mixing old with new food). Yorkies have very sensitive stomachs so a gradual change is always necessary. Royal canin also makes a food specially for dogs with sensitive stomachs... I would recommend that you keep your yorkie hydrated, giving gatorade is a good option and watch what is she thowing up...you could just find out what is making her sick! I hope she gets better soon!! |
Yes, as Babbie says, Yorkie tummys are very sensitive, and food can make her have diarrhea. You could change her back to her old diet and see if that makes a difference or not. We use Royal Canin Yorkshire 28, which has been good for us so far! |
Thanks for advice...where do i get royal canine food I took her to the vet and he said it was probably a parasite that was aggrevated with her change in environment as well as diet. She is doing better. He gave me some medicine for her. He also mentioned that she needs her teeth pulled!! Is this an overreaction...i mean it isn't going to kill her to have crooked teeth...right? :) so where do i get this food? Is it really the best for them? |

I have heard of mixing a tablespoon of pumpkin with their food to get their poop more solid.......... |
I feed Archie Innova. I heard that dogs can be allergic to some of the foods that you get at grocery stores, especially stuff made with "chicken by-products." Originally, I had switched him to this stuff by Merrick called Mediterranean Banquet, with lamb, chickpeas, etc. and he went bananas for it but it was a little too rich. But the innova seems to be doing a good job. Also, make sure that your yorkie eats some dry food, as well, since it's more concentrated nutrients. Archie doesn't really like dry food, so sometimes, I have to mix it in or hand feed it to him. But if your dog has diarrhea, I think eating wet food is better because he can become dehydrated and he needs the water in the wet food. |

hi.. you are on an old thread..it may be better to start a new thread. I would think if the poop is bloody you need to go back to the vet as fast as you can. Bloody poop is not good. |

Just wanted to add...if she still has blood in her poop i would be calling your vet back..JMO |
Has anyone here ever gave your Yorkie a small dose of Immonium AD for diarrhea? I know chicken & rice is what vets say but how about if that isn't making head ways, do you think 1/2 of a tablet is ok? |
I've never given it, but I know it can be given to larger dogs. But a 2 mg tablet (the OTC dosage) is what you would give a 40 pound dog! Has the pup been seen by a vet to determine the cause of the diarrhea ? Are there other symptoms present? Depending on the cause, treatment can range from bowel rest to antibiotics. Fortunately, you have several ER Vets near Oceanside California Veterinary Specialists Carlsbad, 760-431-2273 Veterinary Specialty Hospital San Marcos, 760-466-0600 Sorrento Valley, 858-875-7500 |
I would never give my dog,at any age, an over the counter med without calling my vet first. If your baby has been ill for 24 + hours I would make my way to the vet. Sense it is the weekend this means that you need to find, call and go into an emergency clinic. |
