Shots Question Hi, I have read some posts on YT about puppies getting very sick (and even passing away) from shots so of course I'm like any other worried mom. Lucy is going in for her 4 month shots (she will be exactly 4 months on the day of her shots.) Last time I know they gave her Bortadella (sp?) so she will be getting what ever is the norm at 4 months. She is traveling international with us in two weeks so she needs to be current. Is 4 months old enough to not worry so much? After her Bortadella she got kennel cough the next day but other than that she didn't seem to have any reaction to her second set (at 11 weeks). I know I'm sounding paranoid but I've never had a small furbaby before so I come on here to all of the advice and suggestions and many have been so helpful! |
I think she will be fine. If she has had the shots before and did not react should be no problem. What a lucky little girl....the jet set.;) |
4 mths is still young, but it sounds like she did pretty good the first time. I only do core vaccines. I don't get bordatella unless I'm going to board, no corona etcetera. I do rabies, distemper/parvo only. Non-core vaccines are only recommended if exposure is likely. Here is a good website: http://www.critteradvocacy.org/Canin...0Guidlines.htm I know it's hard not to worry, but she should be okay - at least according to past results. It's always good that you stay w/ her the rest of the day following her shots - you can check for any face swelling, check gums for good/bad color. Let us know how it goes! :) |
where are you going some of the shots i would not give ... may be different for where your going .... you may want to ask about what diseases are prevalent where your going good luck btw i also dont give my fur-babys Lepto |
I also have a little LUCY she is about 13 weeks, she just went in on Friday for her second set of shots she recived the Puppy Distemper/Parvo and the Puppy Corona Vaccine but I did not get her Bordetella yet since she just got over her kennel cough. She seemed to do fine, cried like a big baby when she got the shot but after a treat was fine. Can anyone tell me what the puppy corona vaccine is for? |

To avoid exposure for puppies, they should not be in dog parks, kennels, pet stores, around other dogs, etc. until they are older and/or vaccinated. They can pick up corona in yards that contain infected feces also - so it's important to limit their outside time a bit. I don't vaccinate for corona since it's non-core. |
Thanks so much for the information! I'll probably not have her vaccinated for the corona virus anymore since I don't think she will be at risk for exposure |
