Weight Loss Could anyone possibly explain to me how a puppy at 6 mos of age can lose 15ozs in 9 days?? |
Oh my! Is he sick? Has he been to the vet? |
weight Yes, they can for a number of reasons...illness is most often the reason, but any Yorkie who isn't eating will drop weight rapidly. IF he lost weight and he is not ill and eating well, I would check the scale. |
This 6 mo. old was fine no illness. I thought scales could be off too, mine will vary from my vets office a couple of ozs, but never close to a pound. |
Wow...a pound is ALOT for these little guys.:( I would think maybe the dog has contracted a parasite or something? Or maybe the dog just isn't eating as much as it should...of course, to lose a pound from not eating should be easy to identify, I would think. I've never had any lose that much that fast...but I carefully monitor them, so I'd notice the weight loss waaaay before it got that far. |
All vaccinations were done on this pup, so I highly doubt it is parasites. Blood work was fine, fecal was negitive. My understanding this pup was also seen by another vet and no concerns were reported. Thought maybe others have had experienced this problem and had some suggestions that I could forward on. |
Sometimes scales are inaccurate. If they aren't calibrated, then the puppy's weight wouldn't change. Then if the puppy was weighed on a totally different scale, the weight could be different. Sorry if you're having a problem with a puppy, gets kind of scary. |
