baby teeth did not fall out Just curious, have any of you had to have baby teeth pulled? Both of my babies had to have baby teeth pulled that stayed in next to the adult ones!! My vet says it is not real common so go figure both of mine needed it done  |
Yes, we pulled a few of Yoda's that didn't fall out. The vet said it would be for the best, so that the adult teeth wouldn't be hampered by it. Now Yoda has great straight teeth, thankfully. |
Hi Yorkiemom, Cosita is 7 months and yesterday had 8 teeth pulled. I know all 4 canine teeth were coming behind the baby (or in front, I couldn't tell). I thought vet was only going to remove those four, but he came up with 4 more.... I think it is comon on Yorkies. But who knows. She looks much better now when she smiles, before you could see all those weird teeth jumping at you! :o :-) Quote:

BTW, my co-workers may think I am over doing it, they were teasing me and asking if I was going to get dental braces for my dog. I didn't think it was funny tho. One of my co-workers has a poodle that looks like a town boy since he does not manicure much of the poor little thing. Well, i shouldn't be criticizing, but there is saying in Panama that goes: "Every monkey does not see its own tail". Kind of hard to translate. LOL |
Heheh, it's okay, I think others are just jealous we have such great Yorkie kids! At least that's what I think when people overly tease us how we treat our baby Yoda!!! |
I get teasted all the time about my babies, sometime I wonder about myself too. lol Maddie had 4 baby teeth pulled when she was spayed. Rudy didn't have to have any pulled, I think it is because him and Maddie are alway pulling on the same toy. I think it is more common in small breeds. I know with my two now I am more aware of thing about them since I have join the site. I learn something new everyday. Thanks.........Cindy |
Actually its VERY common for toy breeds to have baby teeth pulled.Lady had hers pulled when she was 6 months old,she had 8 baby teeth removed. My vet said that this is perfectly normal and extremly common. Its also best because not having them removed can cause malformation in the jaw or even infection which in some cases can be fatal. If the jaw becomes infected it can reach the brain. My youngest yokrie Jess has been lucky, all of her baby teeth have fallen out on their own.We played tug of war with her ALOT,our vet told us to do this as it helps loosen the teeth;) He also recomended us to play tug of war with an old sock, because they can get a better grip of this and it reaches all of the teeth. We actually had an apointment for december to have her teeth removed, but cancelled it last week:) |

Babbie, You got that right, "they don't pay my bills" :p Cindy, yes, this site is like an open book, I know more now about Yorkies since I joined this chat room. Yea, fasteddie, sometimes jealousy comes into play, hopefully not for long since it would harm the jealous person more than anything else. mmmh Chelsie, the old sock sounds like a good idea. |
how much does it cost to get the teeth pulled? |
I believe it was $80-100 orinskye for teeth pulling, but Yoda had dental cleaning at the same visit, so it may vary for you. |
Hi orinskye, i am looking at my bill and says: Extract deciduous (CAN)/Tooth 91.00 (the 4 of them) Extract deciduous (INC) /Tooth 11.15 I know he gave me a total of 8 teeth in a baggy. Quote:

wow...... i didnt realize is costs so much  and what age should you get them pulled? *I am trying to get as much information as possible BEFORE i get a yorkie puppy, because at this point i think i am looking at next year sometime and i really want to be an INFORMED future yorkie owner* Raiza....... youre vet let you have teh teeth as a souveneir?.....lol...... how funny! :D |
Hello orinskye: Yea, I never asked for the teeth (I'd forgotten), but when I picked Cosita up, he gave me all the teeth in a baggy.. I thought it was nice of him. Actually I had found about 4 baby teeth laying around. I used those for my photo album. Yes I think it is expensive. I may have gone to an expensive clinic, who knows, but I've heard so many good things about the vets there so I decided to check Cosita in since she was little. The teeth should be pulled when you spay/nudder your dog so they don't have to use anesthesia twice. Usually about 6 months. It also depends on the dog. If the teeth of your Yorkie have been falling out at the right time, I am sure you won't need to have a Vet to pull them out. I have heard a couple in this forum that their doggies teeth felt out okay. I could see on Cosita that some permanents teeth were coming right behind the baby ones. Good luck on your search for a fun yorkie!! Once you have one, you can never go back. This site is hella great to get more info as you like. Raiza. |
