Extra Parvo Shot??? Hello All! BeanSprout is off to the vet tomorrow. He is exactly 16 weeks, and he weighs 5.5 lbs. My breeder told me that he only needed Rabies b/c they had done all his other shots. My vet wanted to give him an extra "parvo" vaccine?! Is that unusual? The rationale was that the community that I live in has a higher than normal rate of parvo.... Can that hurt Beanie?? help please, I am scared! Jen |
I have heard of situations where dogs are given the extra shot. I don't think there is any harm done. |
Thanks, it is nice to get some reassurance:) |
When rocky was 18 weeks I took him to get an extra shot, he was around 5.2 lbs and he did fine. I was told by my vet that it will do no harm, I also did that because I waited a very long time before he got his second set of shots, and boy was I lucky he did not catch anything!! |
...yep. the booster parvo is common. |

Maggie is 4 months old. She is scheduled for her rabies and kennel cough Monday. Then in August she is scheduled for a Parvo Booster. It is perfectly normal. One thing you don't want your baby to get, is Parvo. I have seen grown dogs, that had all their shots, still get Parvo. They survive with a lighter case, than the unfortunate ones that didn't get the Parvo shots. I would say, get it and be happy you did. |
