Canidae vs. Eukaneuba? Hi all! Luigi, my 3 month old, is finally getting used to kibble by itself after gradually changing his diet from wet food to dry. I'm so proud of him  Anyway, recently he was eating Canidae wet food. Then, I gradually switched to Eukaneuba puppy dry food/kibble (I want him to get used to the dry food)..which is what he is eating now. I am wondering if I should switch to Canidae kibble? I'd like opinions on if you think Eukaneuba or Canidae is better? I heard it may be better because it's still good for the doggies but not as rich as Eukaneuba. And if I do switch, what type of Canidae can I give my dog now (when he's a puppy), and when he's older? Also, do you think if i switch up the kibble again from Eukaneuba to Canidae, he'll have tummy problems? Or it should be okay? Thanks in advance! :) |
Yes. I'd say definitely switch him to Canidae. Go to dogfoodanalysis.com and read up on dog food analysis. Here's Canidae: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_f...duct=528&cat=3 I don't know which Eukanuba formula you're feeding but here is a sample of the ingredients they use: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_f...ct=116&cat=all |

Euk. is one of the worst foods on the market. And, keep in mind that Iams has been busted for cruel animal testing on dogs. |
I agree with Wylie's Mom....There would be no contest...Canidae would win hands down. Type in food rating chart in the search and it will bring up all the top rated foods...What you have him on now is JUNK! Stay away from anything with by-products, corn, and fillers. There is a site you can go on that will explain exactly what by-products is...I guarentee once you read it you will throw that food away. I have had the girls on Canidae for a yr now. (was feeding Nutro Ultra) and they love it. I mix a tiny bit of the Canidae canned food with it just for a little extra flavor for them. |
Thanks so much! Looks like I'm going to go with Canidae :) Also, do you think switching him from Euk. to Canidae will upset his tummy or he'll be okay? Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of this big, huge bag of Eukaneuba that I have! haha. |

As for the left over Euk...I would donate it to a shelter. |
Switch to Canidae over a couple of days length. Donate the Euk. to your local shelter ;) |
Donating to the shelter is a great idea! And i'll be sure to do the gradual transitioning again. Luigi's going to be like, "What the freak? Make up your mind, woman!!" Thanks so much for all the suggestions and help! I love this forum! |
Please switch to Canidae!!! |
When transitioning Roxie to Canidae I followed this schedule that was recommended when I purchased the food: Day 1 and 2: 25% new (Canidae) 75% Old (Euk) Day 3 and 4: 50% new 50% old Day 5 and 6: 75% new 25% old Day 7: 100% new It worked very well! |
Switch to Canidae I was feeding my two yorkies Royal Canin Yorkshire kibbles. I was pleased with it but with all the recall I started reading the ingredients. I wanted to see what my girls were actually eating. Alyssa had also had a lot of allergies and had been in and out of the vets for shots. I read about Canidae and started my search to see where I would have to go to find it. I discovered that at least 5 stores in town or within a 30 minute drive sold Canidae. I expected it to be expensive. When I went to buy it the price was $5 cheaper than what I was paying for Royal Canin. I bought some and changed both dogs immediately. I did not mix the food but changed totally after purchasing the Canidae. That was April l3 of this year. A week later I could tell a big difference in Alyssa's scratching. She had much more energy and was as active as my one year old yorkie. Her fur took on a new shine and overall she is a picture of health. My husband was amazed at the world of difference this food has made in her health. Both girls love to eat Canidae. Sometimes I will mix cottage cheese in with it for Alyssa. Emmy does not like cottage cheese. When Alyssa eats the cottage cheese I have to be prepared to totally wash her face because she likes it so well that she gets it all in her long facial hair. I feed Canidae All Life Stages and I am so thankful that I made the switch. I wish someone had told me about it sooner. |
Wow, sound like Canidae is such a great products for our babies!! I will definitely buy it for Chloe when she finishes her current food (She is eating Hill Science Diet Original right now since it is what she been feed from her previous owner). Question, how much do you feed your yorkie? I have a 10 months old 5-6 lbs female yorkie. My co worker told me I should feed her around 2 shot glasses of food per day (one in the morning and one at night). But oh my goodness, that shot glass is small, is she eating enough?? So, I am feeding her 1 1/2 shot glass in the morning and another same portion in the evening. I also feed Chloe one teenie greenie and 3 mike-bone treats per day. Do I think she is eating enough? I feel like she isn't but didn't want to feed her too much since she did throw up twice a while back! (I think it was bcoz she ate too much!!) Help!! Thanks!! Also, how many treats do you guys give your babies?? Do you guys feed your baby any canned food? If so, how often and what brand are they?? Thanks!! I love this forums! |
Canidae is an EXCELLENT food. Science Diet is a poor food, so it is a good thing that you are going to switch. www.canidae.com This will tell you how much to feed, according to weight and activity level. When you feed a 'better' quality food, you don't have to feed as much as the lesser quality food to get the nutrition. Welcome and Best of Luck! |
Oh man, is it really that bad of food (Hill Science Diet)? I still have a lot to go before I could switch (probably a month supply) I do wanna switch now, but what can I do with the left over Hill Science Diet food? Throw it away is a waste!! |
