Canine Virus - Flu - Cold We just returned from Europe. My daughter kept my two (Yorkie, Maltese) at my house most of the time except for one weekend when she was going to be out of town she took them to the kennel for boarding along with her own Yorkie. Now her Yorkie & mine are both sick. Snorting, coughing, sneezing, throwing up clear fluid, etc. She took hers to her vet & she gave him an allergy shot & antibiotics. I called my vet & talked to the receptionist, who talked to the vet who told her that there was just a virus going around & there was no need to bring her in because there wasn't anything they could do about it, for me just to watch her & if it got a lot worse, to let them know. Said there had only been a couple of dogs who had gotten bad enough to give antibiotics. Well, I'm a worry wart & wonder if anyone else has this & what their vet has done? Thanks for any info you can give. |
I wonder how they know it's not kennel cough....? |

It could just be a simple cold but then again it could also be Kennel cough. Watch them for another day to see how they do and if you think its getting worse then make an appointment. |
I don't know how they know its not kennel cough since they didn't take a blood test or anything. All 3 have had the bordatella immunization but I have heard that they are not sure how long immunity lasts & my Maltese who had his most recently is not showing any signs as of yet. |

My daughter did take her Yorkie to her vet & she told her that it was not kennel cough but as to how she was able to know that, I have no idea. |
Little Bit seems much better today. I guess I over reacted - again;) |

My baby seems to have health problems Hello Everyone, I am new to this website, but have been reading it for the past couple of weeks now. I purchased a small 1lb 5oz male yorkie puppy the beginning of this month June 2007, he will be 4 months old soon. When we picked him up he had a cough and the breeder said the litter had Bortatello vaccine (nasal) was given to the 4 pups but only 2 got a cough. We had this small wonderful little fellow in our home for a week until we had to return him on the advice of our Vet even tho he gained weigh and was 1lb 9oz. You could hear him rattle when he breaths. He is much better now but lost abit of weight I guess from being sick. The breeder is wonderful, she has taken him back and refunded our money, but we still want the puppy, just want him to be well. He had gotten over the cough (kennel Cough) but has now after a week started coughing again. He now weighs 1lb 6oz. Does being small make the puppy less able to get well? I miss our baby, and want him home soon, does anyone know how long this lasts and will this be a life-long health problem because he is small. He is estimated at 3 to 4 lbs full grown...does size not make them healthy? Just asking all of you out there for your advice on what I should do Thanks a mill Katharine |

SOrry your puppy is sick. Because he is so small and young he can be sick for quite some time if not treated properly. Kennel cough can easily turn to pneumonia in these little guys and it will take even longer to treat. I'd get the pup back on ABs by your vet. if you don't mind me asking, where did you get your puppy from? |
I got my baby from a small breeder here in PA... She is a very nice woman, who seems to care about the dogs she sells. She is helping us with trying to get our baby back to good health. I would buy another puppy from her again. Katharine :aimeeyork |
