Fleas On Sunday night, I stayed the night with a friend who has animals and the next day when I came home, I noticed that Eloise had caught fleas. I now know for sure that this is when and where she got them because once before she had been over there and had a few [that lasted 2 days max]. First off, I feel terrible. It's my fault that she got them. Well, Eloise has had 2 flea baths and after I think they're gone, they aren't. The stupid fleas move around so fast and I have no idea how to get rid of them. She had one monthly flea drop treatment last month on the 29th, so she is going to have it again soon.. but how long does a flea have to be on a dog before they start laying eggs? And if anyone has any ideas of how to get rid of them, please let me know. Thanks. :aimeeyork |
Give her a bath with Dawn dish liquid. It works, I've tried it. |
it really does work!! when we had rottweiler's that is all my husband would use to bathe them in. |
I dont have flea problems YET but they seem to become a problem in around August around here...can you use any Dawn dish soap or is there a certain one you should use? To the OP..dont feel bad that your dog has fleas...fleas happen lol...we live in a very sandy area and sand fleas are inevitable here...and dont be upset with your friend..fleas can hop on just about anywhere, dog parks, pet stores even daily walks.. Dawn |
we always used to blue dawn - just the basic one. it doesn't need to antibacterial or anything else. |
thank you so much. i'll definately try that. |
I've had a real problem with fleas this year. My vet gave me a CapStar pill. It kills all the fleas on your dog in about 30 minutes. It won't prevent them from coming back, but it kills the ones that are on them. The Dawn did NOT work for me. I've tried it a couple of different times & it does not work at all for me. Guess my fleas are immune to it or something. I've been trying the Frontline & everything, which is killing them, but they're still getting on her (they just die when they try to bite). I'm so frustrated with them I can't stand it anymore! |
Boric acid I've heard of dusting flea-infested dogs with boric acid/borax, also a great deterrent for spiders: http://cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q...-US&FORM=CVRE4 |
Yep! The dawn dish soap definitely works but make sure you use a good conditioner and let it set for 3 or 4 minutes to really condition their coat and skin because the dawn tends to dry their coat and skin up. Also, be sure and keep it out of their little eyes because it will burn them...its not tearless. Also...try Bio Guard shampoo. Its for puppies, kittens, dogs, cats, and even safe for us humans to use. It is a great flea shampoo that works WITH your monthly flea protection like frontline or biospot or whatever you might use. and It wont wash it off! I love the shampoo! Goodluck gettin rid of those pests! |
thanks. i did try the dawn yesterday, and i'm pretty sure it got rid of atleast most of them. as i was toweling her off, quite a few dead fleas literally fell right off her. and i did use a conditioning spray, i think it's called perfect coat and has a picture of a yorkie on the front. it worked really well. and today is when her frontline needs to be applied again, so hopefully that will get the rest [if any].* :aimeeyork |

Isn't a flea dip rather toxic to their privates areas? I would advise reading up on flea dips and the toxicity. Good luck. |

i don't like flea dips and we have never used them. not when we raised rott's and not now that we have pit bulls. the dawn works perfectly without all those chemicals. like we said - you can see them fall of after a good bath in it. |
