Blackening Of Skin On Back Legs
 
Has anyone seen this on their dogs as dd has it on her back leg

I have heard of candida fungus

just curious what everyone thinks

When I adopted Charlie, he had dark molting on his skin. I recognize old age skin, but that wasn't it. It was definitely linked to his thyroid condition, and demodex. Once he was treated with ivermectin, and on a twice daily dose of thyroid medication, he skins looks wonderful. His ears even had very dark skin that looked like it could be peeled, but cleared up.

I don't know what your dog's blackened skin looks like .I remember once going near a beach with Cookie ,he seemed fine the whole time. I was pretty far from the beach. I would say about 100 feet before I even touched sand. I was in the parking lot actually lol. I ended up leaving because I noticed little tiny,tiny specs on my legs that I thought was dirt. Well I was getting itchy and left immediately! When I got back to our hotel I noticed Cookie's neck,inside his ears,outside his ears and parts on his back were black. It looked like dirt rubbed on. I tried washing it off but it did not come off. Within 2 days it was much darker and the skin looked a little raised to me. I took him to the vet and explained what happened. She told me the tiny black stuff I saw were beach lice! It was soooooo tiny that you can't see what it is. She prescribed some sort of cleanser, I forgot the name !
It cleared up after a few weeks.
I was soooo itchy for about 2 weeks!

Could be yorkie crud, black ear, etc. It affects the extremities legs, ears, nose and does spread


If this is it keep the area clean with alchol, and apply lotrimon 2 percent, 2 to 3 times a day. Be patient it will take awhile to clear.

All of the posts are interesting. If this just appeared, then I would disregard Charlie's symptoms. Since his skin was in such bad condition, he also was licking his feet. The new vet did a swab between his toes, and he has fungus. Believe we have talked about that previously or it was Kathy.

where do you get lotrimon 2 percent?
will it hurt her if she licks or chews it as she does do that at times :(

wow wild but have not taken her to beach she is our doggie in a bubble :(

huh her thyroid test was fine and it is only on back left leg - all black and sometimes she chews at it but not a lot - no hair there either - looks like a fungus to me but asked derm and she said that is normal in dogs with allergies - :( very frustrating

no she was scraped and taped and all that stuff 30 days ago and had bacteria infection which simplecef given for 20 days so I would think if it was a fungus or anything else it would be gone by now but it is still there - wouldn't the antibiotic kill all that stuff ? why is it still black :( ?

WalGreens, CVS, Rite-Aide....WalMart.....No it won't hurt her. It's the only thing that has been found affective.

Because vets are baffled about this stuff. If you go to Vassarsquare.com. Terri Shumski (deseased breeder and judge) has information on her website.

It's known to yorkie breeders by yorkie crud, black ear and a multitude of other names.
