good grief I took Kaya to the vet 2 weeks ago to get her rabies shot and got her microchipped. I'm getting her vaccines done separately because apparently she has had reactions in the past. (that is also recommended for small dogs.) They also did an exam at that time. So today I took her in for her distemper and it cost $38.50! I asked why it was so expensive and they said cause it included the yearly exam. (which she had 2 weeks ago. ) They wouldn't take off any money for the second exam. Can you believe what a rip off that is? I'm going to check around and see if all vets are that expensive in this area. The vaccine must cost them about 20 cents. Just so frustrating! |
Geez did you tell them she just had an exam 2 weeks ago and you paid for it then? That would be enough to make me start looking for a new vet. |
seems like a rip off but here an office visit is $49.50 ... I just had Monday in b/c she had diarrhea ... it cost me $49.50 plus $25.50 for medicine (amforal ...dog medicine for OTC Imodium) and $29.50 for fecal sample analysis ... $104.50 cha ching! |
yeah i would find another vet too - exams here range from 39-45 but that seems crazy to charge that again if done a few weeks ago. It is hard as you do not want to complain as you feel like they will not be good to animal but now after 14k in vet bills with 2 sick dogs i question everything before it is done and ask how much before going in and i speak up and if i do not feel comfortable about prevention medicine or something i say let me think about it and i will get back with you I do not like high pressure sales on stuff so i research and ask a lot of questions or the bill will just rack up is this for puppy shots as i do titers yearly to see if they need vaccines after their puppy series as to not over vaccinate for the little guys |
Yeah vets are such rip offs. I really hate it! It sux because I hesitate taking my dogs to the vet because I know whenever I go, I'm going to be shelling out $100+ when there may or may not actually be anything wrong with my dogs! |
I know that it is $30 for a vet exam at my vet. If the vet administers the vaccine, they will charge for an office visit as well. Vaccines at my vet are around $18............. |
my new vet charged $50 for just the exam i asked how much i would need to bring for one dogs updated shots she said $300 - $400 i was shocked !! thats over $1200 for 3 dogs |
I hear ya on the vet bills. Mayson broke his toes, which when you add up all the bills, it came to almost $1,000. That's why when it came to Mayson's neutering, I took him to the Humane Society. I couldn't be any more happier. It was only $40 for the neuter, $15 for micro chip and $5 for 1 tooth extraction. The only downfall is that, the place gets so crowded that you wait a little longer in the waiting room than you would in a regular vet. I've talked to several people before I decided to go with the Humane Society and I heard nothing but positive things. I'm not sure, but I think there is a Humane Society in every large city? |
Right now our Humane Society only alters animals that are brought in to them. They just started a program where, if your animal has babies and you bring the babies in to give up, they will spay your female for a really cheap price. |
