Can I give Benadryl to Benji? Last night I noticed a red bump over Benji's eye and some red blotches on his chest and ears. I know I need to find out what he is allergic to. I gave him a bath in a cortisone shampoo I got from Fosters & Smith. This seemed to help a little. The only different thing I am feeding him for the past week is a tsp of Alpo wet food and I noticed that has soy in it. (My older dog can only eat wet food because of a sickness and Benji likes a taste of it in his food) I stopped that. Also, even though my yard is mostly concrete, he did near some bushes/weeds. I will watch that in the future. My question is, when he does itch can I give him pediatric benadryl? If so, how much would you give a 5 lb dog? Thank you. |
my vet told me to give scrappy which is 7 pounds 5 cc before his shots because he has a reaction to his shots but i dont know how much to give to a 5pound baby. |
I too have a 5 pound baby and I have been giving her less than 1/2 teaspoon every 8 hours for her itching problem. She has allergies and my vet said it would be fine to give her that amount. It has helped a bit but she is still allergic to alot of things. We have changed her food to IVD and now I am giving her missing link supplement which some people of this site have suggested. It is too early to tell yet with the supplement. However, I know the Benedryl is not a cure all so I am still trying other things. Hope the Benedryl helps! Chloe's Mom |
A long time ago my vet told me to give it to my Muffin, but she was bigger than 5 pounds, so I don't know how much. Call them and ask them how much you could give her. I just gave her the children's cherry-flavored. But it was for a spring/fall cough she would get...allergies. |

When Sully gets allergies (and we know the signs) our vet told us to give him a 1/2 dose of Children's Benedryl every 5 hours for a day or two. And that really fixed him up just fine! No problems.! |
Stewie got 1/4 aspirin or 1/2 teaspoon of Children's Motrin every four hours per our vet |
When Willy needs benadryl(he's approx 13lbs) he gets 1/2 of a childrens benedryl 25mg caplet. Our vet says approx 1mg per pound, and the caplet version not capsule. I cannot get Willy to take the liquid. The caplets work very well. |

Benadryl is fine to give (according to my vet) but if you give them anything make sure to check the label to make sure that it doesn't have pseudoephedrine (sp?) in it because it is lethal to dogs in even the smallest doses! |
