Does anyone use Honest Kitchen Hi I was wondering if any of you YTers feed your dogs The Honest Kitchen brand foods. I really am apprehensive about feeding my future yorkie the name brand kibble (I've done my research and it is down right SCARY what is in some pet food:eek: ) so I decided to go the natural route. If you do use it do u supplement and/or add meats? Also how much do you recommend feeding to a puppy and how often. I don't have my yorkie yet (soon hopefully:aimeeyork ) but I want to make sure that I am making an informed decision. Thanks!:D |
I'm pretty sure some do...I personally dont. I feed Canidae, but I'm bumping this for you. And also, go to the main page and do a search for it, and that might help you! Good luck, and good job looking into foods before you got your yorkie. Mine was on an AWFUL food for a couple months... |
I tried some samples and wasn't really impressed. One of my dogs wouldn't go near it and another one just tasted it and left it. Of course Tinka snarfed it down... like she does ANYTHING!! It also seem pretty expensive to feed... I don't know. I'm pretty sure there are others on here who use it and like, though. |
I just switched my girls from home cooking over to The Honest Kitchen purely for convenience sake. They love it (and Sissy is pretty picky). For a small dog, you feed 1/2 cup to 1 cup total per day (depending on activity level). Make sure you go with Embark which is for all life stages. It is grain free with a single source protein, so chances of allergies are very slim. The food is really easy to use - you simply hydrate what you are going to feed with warm water and let sit till it firms up a bit. I actually make a few cups at a time, give the girls their portion, and refrigerate the rest (heating for 20 secs in the microwave before they eat it). I do not add anything to it. The ratio breakdown on the bag is fairly identical to the other premium brands of foods. I worry about too much protein causing other problems such as pancreatitis or liver issues. My girls do get yogurt for breakfast in the morning and fruits during the day. I would highly recommend this food. My girls give it   |
This is a recent thread about The Honest Kitchen foods. Hope it helps! ;) http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82095 |
They send me a couple of samples, they smelled it and walked off. Left it out for a while, but they wanted nothing to do with it ! |

I tried it, 3 different flavors, she sniffed it, and never touched it. It has a strong scent. |
I had tried it months ago - and they liked it the first time, then would never go back again. So, I have a $40 bucket of it in my pantry - just going to waste... |
The honest kitchen "Preference" I like for my girls because I add the meat/protein for them. But I home cook for them and also feed canidea too so far so good, they all have regular bowel movement and firm stool:thumbup:  |
