Liver Hi I have tried to find info on liver,:thumbdown I was told by the breader that I should never give my baby chicken liver. Lee Roy is now 10 weeks old and weighs 940g. The question is why should I not feed liver? and If I can what liver may I give? |
Im not sure Im bumping your post so someone will try and answer this. |
I have read that too much liver is bad for them because it is high in Vitamin A and can cause Vitamin A toxicity and can have a very negative affect on their bones...Liver every once in awhile is supposed to be good, but if they eat it something like 3 times a week, they can overdose on Vitamin A which causes serious problems. I'll see if I can find the link... |
Many dog treats and prepared foods contain liver so it may surprise you to find liver on the bad foods list. In small amounts liver is good for your dog, but if the liver intake is too high it can cause nutritional problems because liver has a high content of vitamin A. Consumption of this vitamin in large amounts can lead to vitamin A toxicity, or hypervitaminosis A. If your dog eats raw liver or consumes three servings of cooked liver a week it could lead to bone problems. Feeding liver to a dog taking Vitimin A supplements can lead to an overdose of Vitamin A. Symptoms of hypervitaminosis A are deformed bones, excessive bone growth on the elbows and spine, weight loss and anorexia. If left unchecked, hypervitaminosis A has in some cases caused death. http://mooreshaven.com/pets/dogs/saf...foodslist.html |
Veal liver if ok but only a tiny bit once in awhile. Sometimes it can cause really loose stools, so be careful. I don't know about chicken liver. I don't feed my chicken at all, not even the liver. They get free range beef and lamb. They also get albacore tuna, sardines and salmon. |
Thank you Thank you for getting back to me .....I think I will just keep away from liver of any kind ....again Thank you for taking the time to assist. Have a great week |
