Maybe feed him baby food with a syringe that has meat in it but no turkey meat, no onion or garlic powder in it. |
how long since he ate or drank? If you are not sure call the person you got him from and find out? Make sure you hae the same food they were feeding him that he is used to eating. How is the pup acting? Normal? playful? Ot lethargic just laying there? If he is active and running around, playful. He is probably ok. Just continue to offer him food and drink. If he is not acting right, then take him to the vet right away. You could first put some Nutrical (if you have it )on our finger and put it in his mouth or if you don't have that give him karo syrup the same way. Make sure you call the vet. If he doesn't perk up take him in right away. good luck I hope he is ok. |
my franks was like that the first 2 days he would only drink when we were not looking but then after a week ahe was the same ol frank he is today :D |
Please let us know how your baby is doing? Keep checking his gums. If the look very pale and white you need to do something fast....If they are post back and someone here will surely help you right away. ;) |
his gums do appear pale i suppose they do appear somewhat pale. my sister did call the breeder and she said that he was probably just nervous about the surroundings??? i suppose...i mean we took him outside prior to feeding him and he was running out having fun...then when we brought him inside...he just kinda plopped on my lap...i am visiting my sister in maryland so all the pet stores are closed...my sister's husband says that we are over reacting...i am just worried |
Do you have Kayro syrup in the house? |
And your NOT overreacting at all....A yorkie is very tiny and things happen VERY fast. |
thank you all...we did go to the store and bought some karo syrup(sp?)...and some baby food. he did eventually eat some (although very little). and he did drink. he has peed a few times and gone poo...although it was not outside...but we're just glad he went. i will try to take pics and post them here...it might be under my sis's username 'i luv dexter'...we plan to grill today...he really loves it outside |
No Turkey Quote:
I am just wondering why no turkey? Is it just turkey baby food, or all turkey? I have been giving Zoey small bits of turkey lunch meat. |
Lunch meat is generally very bad for dogs... As far as turkey is concerned, the skin can cause pancreatitis in a dog. It's very high in fat, and not good for them at all. I do give my healthy dog ground turkey, as many vets have said that ground turkey is fine for healthy dogs. |
Is Dexter eating and drinking yet? Remember they are so small they don't eat much. Do you have the same dog food the breeder had him on? I would add a little sugar or Karo syrup to his water, just to be sure his blood sugar stays up while he's adjusting to his new home. The fact that he peed and pooped and is running around is all good signs. They do sleep a lot at that age too...which also is good to conserve his energy. But you should be able to wake him up easily...but if he continues to be lethargic, it is most definitely his sugar, rub a little Karo in his mouth...it doesn't take much, but if he's not eating, you may have to do it frequently. Oh yeah...congrats on the new pup, welcome to YT and good luck...enjoy!!! |
dexter is eating and drinking today my sister bought the nutrical....and he ate it...he also started drinking more water and he is eating the dog food (that the breeder had him on)...thank you all for the suggestions...we took them all...but i forgot the camera so we did not get to take pictures of the outing...but perhaps next time...Dex says hi :animal36 |
