X-Ray Question
 
My yorkie has been vomiting alot lately so I called the vet and he said he might have eaten something that is causing a blockage in his stomach. So I need to take him in tomorrow to have an X-ray taken. I was just wondering, how do they do that? Does the dog need to be sedated? I hope not. I am so nervous. I hope the X-ray doesn't show anything because if it does then he needs to have surgery, AGAIN :(

Oh no!!!!!!!!! I'm not sure if they have to be sedated or not. I wouldn't think so. I would think that since a yorkie is so small that they would have enough people to hold him down so they don't have to sedate him. Anyway, sending thoughts and prayers your way! Keep us updated on what the vet finds, if anything!

My vet tried to sedate my Rotties when I was breeding them and I had them xray'd for hip displaysia (sp?) I did not allow it. You can call ahead and give them Dramamine or Benadryl to relax them...and I insisted I go in the xray room with them ...they are going to be more calm and comfy with you rather than a stranger. I have had many xray ran on my dogs in the day...for hips, eating something, hurt legs, its always something but I have never allowed sedation to be administered. I'd call the vet and discuss your options and their intentions. Your paying the bill...and Im sure a pricey one...make them do their job and comfort you first! Good luck and let us know how it goes and what you decide!!;)

He had the X-ray on Friday and it didn't show anything in his stomach but it did show his esophagus was filled with air. So the vet said make sure he eats a little bit but all throughout the day so his esophagus won't get filled with air. Luckily his blood tests were all OK. He is on medicine now and isn't vomiting any more.

The vet told me to give him Tagament and just cut it in 4 pieces since he is small. It seems to be working because he hasn't vomited at all this week.
