Feeding--how often for new baby 2 Attachment(s) I hated to start a new thread for this, as I am sure it has been answered before--but I can never find what I need using the YT search option (I am sure I am the problem, not the search tool). I have a new furbaby, Oscar, who is 12 weeks old. Emmy, my other yorkie, is 1 year. I swear I don't remember anything from when she was little. Questions: 1. how often should Oscar be eating (if I could leave his dry food down, I think he would eat none-stop--but Emmy would gobble it up!) 2. can he have small treats like I give Emmy--carrot shreds, fruit, cottage cheese, regular cheeses (cheddar, brie, havarti (Em's favorite), swiss) 3. he loves wet food--how often can he have it? I have been giving him some first thing in the morning and keeping him on kibble the rest of the day. Should I give him some at night, too? Thanks for your help! pic 1 is Emmy and pic 2 is little Oscar! |
When Chloe was that age, I think she ate between 1/4 cup and 6TB kibbles a day. |
Eating I have a 14 week old baby, I feed him mini meals all day. He is hypoglycemic which is very common in these lil babies. I would say feed him every 3-5 hours until he gets a lil older. Diggy eats like 3/4 of a tablespoon of kibble or treats. Yes carrots yogurt cottage cheese things like that are all okay. |
1. how often should Oscar be eating (if I could leave his dry food down, I think he would eat none-stop--but Emmy would gobble it up!) I would feed him at least 3-5 times a day to make sure he doesn't get hypolycemia. Look on the dog food bag to see how much he should be getting per day and divide that between 3-5 small meals. 2. can he have small treats like I give Emmy--carrot shreds, fruit, cottage cheese, regular cheeses (cheddar, brie, havarti (Em's favorite), swiss) Yes. All those are fine treats to give your new little guy. 3. he loves wet food--how often can he have it? I have been giving him some first thing in the morning and keeping him on kibble the rest of the day. Should I give him some at night, too? It's fine to give him wet food morning and night but if he's eating his dry dog food with no problems, then I would leave out the wet food altogether. The wet food is bad for their teeth and since yorkies are already prone to having teeth problems, I would try to leave out the wet food. BUT, if he won't eat his food dry, then a little wet food on top is fine. P.S. -- your babies are gorgeous! |
thanks for the advice i feel like a 1st time mother all over again!:D |
