Is my baby showing signs of disrespect??? Hi everyone. I'm hoping someone here can help me figure this one out. My Cody is trained to go both indoors on his weewee pads and outdoors. I went on vacation and was gone for 10 days and my boyfriend, whom he looooves, babysat him while I was away. My bf took him out for long walks both morning and nights and Cody rarely went on his pads indoors during that time. When I got back I notice Cody will hold it as long as he can and then he just pees wherever. I don't take him on walks twice a day because my schedule doesn't allow it all the time and now i feel like he got so used to it that he refuses to go on his pads and might be acting out?? BUT, and this is the part that really concerns me....he has pee'd on his bed, my bed, and my foot!!! I thought dogs didn't soil where they eat or sleep?! And what's with the peeing on my foot?? I've read that can be a sign of total disrespect but where is this coming from? He has since pee'd on my carpet numerous times. I don't know what can be going on?? Does anyone have any ideas? Help, please. |
I'm not sure......How long have you been back? Is BF not around as much. Maybe he misses him? Maybe he just needs to get back on schedule... Sorry these are pretty lame suggestions. I'm sure someone will have some idea's for you.. Hang in there. You've probably already thought of this, but make sure he's not developing a UTI. |

Since he's peeing in his own bed and yours, I would first make sure he doesn't have a UTI or something going on. He might just be a little confused since he was going outside all the time and now maybe he doesn't understand that he has to go on the pee pads. Maybe his routine was alot different when you were gone, and now he has to get used to a new one. |
I don't think he is acting out or showing disrespect. It definitely sounds like he developed a preference for going potty while on walks during those 10 days. Now, all the sudden, the rules have changed. He holds it and holds it waiting for that walk and then he just can't hold it anymore. The easiest solution would be to walk him. Perhaps you could alter your schedule to accomodate those walks? Otherwise, I recommend you go back to the basics. Watch him like a hawk, interrupt him when he tries to potty inappropriate place and take him to the correct place. Reward, reward, reward when he does get it right. |
